The BoBo Carnival of Politics August 15, 2010 Edition

Holy crap!  I guess when you schedule a carnival out for two weeks it gives everyone time to submit – we have 29 to choose from this week.  Some may seem questionable on the surface as to whether they are related to politics – but – once you go read them you can see how it fits.

I want to thank all of the contributors.  For my readers – please thank them by visiting their blogs and commenting – I’m sure they will appreciate it.

If you also noticed – I’ve been posting quite frequently lately.  Yes, I still have the eye problem (Adie’s Pupil – google it) – but – I’ve been using drops that contract the pupil so it has been helping.  I hope to continue that string of posting and bringing the popularity up on this blog again.

I get it’s a good idea – generally – for a regular lender.  However, this is a quasi-government entity. I have all of my student loans through Sallie Mae and they definitely offer a lot of great options.  However, I won’t be giving my money to a government entity to save it. :)   Great information though.  You know me – I just don’t trust our government in anything any longer.

Agreed!  If I’m not mistaken – Dawn dish soap worked miracles on the birds in Alaska after the Exxon-Valdez incident.  Man caused this – man needs to make it right.  Euthanasia is not an option when these birds can be salvaged.

Politics

Ann Margrain presents American Dropout: A Day in the Life posted at Heroin and Cornflakes, saying, “On any given day, nearly 23 percent of all young Black men ages 16 to 24 who have dropped out of high school are in jail or a juvenile justice institution in America, according to a national report on the dire economic and social consequences of not graduating from high school.”

I think what you should also stress is the fact that we have a 16% drop-out rate overall in the U.S. and of that 16%, 21% are blacks – representing the highest portion of all drop-outs.  Hispanics have a 27.5% dropout rate – but – that also includes illegal aliens and therefore indicates a bias in the data that cannot be considered reliable.  To me, this is more a failure of our education system and the erosion of family values in this country than it is any other factor.  It has been proven time and again that a solid education is the great social equalizer that increases the socio-economic status of any minority group.  If we don’t fix the problems with our education system, I feel your findings are just going to get worse.
