The BoBo Carnival of Politics August 15, 2010 Edition

Posted by: The BoBo  //  Category: Carnival, Conservative, Democrats, Liberals, Politics, libertarian

Holy crap!  I guess when you schedule a carnival out for two weeks it gives everyone time to submit – we have 29 to choose from this week.  Some may seem questionable on the surface as to whether they are related to politics – but – once you go read them you can see how it fits.

I want to thank all of the contributors.  For my readers – please thank them by visiting their blogs and commenting – I’m sure they will appreciate it.

If you also noticed – I’ve been posting quite frequently lately.  Yes, I still have the eye problem (Adie’s Pupil – google it) – but – I’ve been using drops that contract the pupil so it has been helping.  I hope to continue that string of posting and bringing the popularity up on this blog again.

So – browse these articles and feel free to comment here and at the contributors’ blogs.  ENJOY!

The BoBo Carnival of Politics – June 13 2010 Edition

Posted by: The BoBo  //  Category: Carnival, Conservative, Democrats, Liberals, Politics, blogs, libertarian

Hey all – sorry for the delayed post. We decided to take a family day and head over to Orlando and MGM/Hollywood Studios.  It was the last day of the Star Wars Weekends for the year.  Yes – I’m a big Sci-Fi geek so we had to attend.  With that being said – let’s move on.  We have, yet again, some great submissions this week from some awesome bloggers.  Please stop by and comment on their blogs if you like their submissions or if you have something to add.

Michael Wolf presents Letter 2 America for June 9, 2010 posted at letters2america.

Conservative

Scooter Van Neuter presents Obama Slapped Down At GOP Luncheon posted at Scooter’s Report, saying, “(Lame) satire”

LOL – Lame, but, funny.  Good one.

Scott Spiegel presents How About a Relief Vessel Called the Yasser Arafat? posted at Scott Spiegel, saying, “Perhaps the heartrending lament that the Turkish aid flotilla Mavi Marmara—headed for Gaza and stopped by the Israeli Navy last week—contained a bevy of innocent Nobel Peace laureates would be more compelling if recent Nobel Peace laureates didn’t include the father of modern terrorism, Yasser Arafat.”

Liberal

Madeleine Begun Kane presents Kirk’s “Factual” Quirks posted at Mad Kane’s Political Madness.

Madeleine Begun Kane presents Kick-Ass Limerick posted at Mad Kane’s Political Madness.

I already commented on this one at your place.  I don’t get it either.

Libertarian

Archvillain presents Color Bar « A Dark and Sinister Force for Good posted at A Dark and Sinister Force for Good, saying, “Whatever happened to “protect and serve”?”

As I am sure you already know – there are three justice systems – one for the boys in blue, one for the rich and famous, and one for everyone else. Our system of “policing” has become very much self-serving and they are only out to protect themselves.

Miscellaneous

Cynthia Bateman presents First, Do No Harm: How Adopting A Simple Principle May Have Prevented The BP Oil Spill posted at Blog About It.

Albie presents Overcoming Bureaucracy as a Social Entrepreneur – Social Enterprise Tips posted at Matthew Alberto .com.

Monte Stonewall presents 10 Famous Arsonists and Why posted at Fire Science Colleges.

June Tree presents Sallie Mae Bank Review: Savings Accounts See Rate Increases posted at The Digerati Life, saying, “Sallie Mae has entered into the savings business. A good move for a lender who’s now offering savings options to consumers.”

I get it’s a good idea – generally – for a regular lender.  However, this is a quasi-government entity. I have all of my student loans through Sallie Mae and they definitely offer a lot of great options.  However, I won’t be giving my money to a government entity to save it. :)   Great information though.  You know me – I just don’t trust our government in anything any longer.

News

Brian Anderson presents Stick A Cork In It posted at Crypto American, saying, “Hey BoBo thanks for helping me get over my fear of clowns”

Bwahaha!  My pleasure Brian.  Glad to see you again.

GrrlScientist presents Oiled SeaBirds: To Kill Or Not To Kill? What Is The Ethical Thing To Do?Living the Scientific Life, saying, “Some people claim that we should euthanize all oiled birds immediately upon recovering them. But I argue it is our ethical responsibility to protect, clean and save these birds, even after they’ve been oiled, just as we should preserve and clean their habitats.” posted at

Agreed!  If I’m not mistaken – Dawn dish soap worked miracles on the birds in Alaska after the Exxon-Valdez incident.  Man caused this – man needs to make it right.  Euthanasia is not an option when these birds can be salvaged.

Politics

Ann Margrain presents American Dropout: A Day in the Life posted at Heroin and Cornflakes, saying, “On any given day, nearly 23 percent of all young Black men ages 16 to 24 who have dropped out of high school are in jail or a juvenile justice institution in America, according to a national report on the dire economic and social consequences of not graduating from high school.”

I think what you should also stress is the fact that we have a 16% drop-out rate overall in the U.S. and of that 16%, 21% are blacks – representing the highest portion of all drop-outs.  Hispanics have a 27.5% dropout rate – but – that also includes illegal aliens and therefore indicates a bias in the data that cannot be considered reliable.  To me, this is more a failure of our education system and the erosion of family values in this country than it is any other factor.  It has been proven time and again that a solid education is the great social equalizer that increases the socio-economic status of any minority group.  If we don’t fix the problems with our education system, I feel your findings are just going to get worse.
