The BoBo Carnival of Politics – January 17, 2009 Edition
Posted by: The BoBo // Category: BoBo, Carnival, Conservative, Harry Reid, Liberals, P-BO, Politics, Religion, blogs, government, libertarianHi All – welcome to another great edition. Before we get started – I recently learned that a high school buddy of mine was trapped and survived a building collapse in Haiti. I just wanted to give a public shout-out to Lt. Col. John Christopher Thomas and say – thanks for your service – and glad you’re a live buddy! While were on the subject – Haiti and the people are in some very serious trouble right now. If you can’t volunteer your time or talents – please make a donation to help them out. Now – on with the show!
Conservative
Scott Spiegel presents Reid to African Americans: “I Come Too Far From Where I Started From” posted at Scott Spiegel.
I’m with you on this – Democrats have definitely manipulated the black community for political gain and power. See the post before this one. Great analysis.
Liberal
Madeleine Begun Kane presents Al-Qaeda Talking Points? posted at Mad Kane’s Political Madness.
Not really sure where you’re going with this one. Those individuals you pointed out spoke the truth about the failures of the administration to keep the people safe. That could have turned out much worse had the bomb actually detonated. Just out of curiosity – what were you saying when Reid said “The war is lost?” What about when Durbin called our marines baby killers? What about when Kerry said our soldiers were terrorizing citizens in the middle of the night? What about when Obama said our military was bombing villages indiscriminately? Those were truly statements that undermined our military, our national security, and helped to truly bolster Al-Qaeda. I think in this instance you are trying to make a case where there isn’t one.
Libertarian
Wenchypoo presents D-I-Y Economic Reform–Starving the Evil Piggies posted at Wisdom From Wenchypoo’s Mental Wastebasket, saying, “Probably more in line with “money” carnivals, but it does contain some political talk in there.”
Wenchy – no problem – it does loosely fit with politics given today’s economy. These are all good pointers. My family has tightened the belt as well. Given your list – it appears there is more we can do.
Miscellaneous
Steven and Debra presents Government False-flag Operations and Operation Northwoods posted at The END TIMES Hoax, saying, “Could our very own government be the enemy?”
That was indeed a very interesting read. However, you failed to put it in context – JFK never signed off on Operation Northwoods. You have to remember, this was just one of many potential strategies put forth to deal with the Cuba problem. Everything is on the table during war planning. It is then up to the President to decide what actions the military should take.
Steve Parry presents Racism In American Politics posted at The Axis, saying, “It’s about time we fight back on this.”
Great post, Steve. One of the very first blog posts I wrote was about the hypocrisy of the Democrats regarding racism. It was their party that started the KKK. My most recent post points out how they use and enslave blacks just as they did when they were slave masters – only now they use social policies and laws instead of chains. The good thing is that they have overplayed the race card and no one is buying it any longer – except for those really hard left libtards who believe anything coming from another liberal’s mouth.
News
SVB presents Can A Home Loan Modification Ruin Your Credit? posted at The Digerati Life, saying, “How one person is dealing with a home loan modification, given the credit crunch and the possibility of losing a home.”
Some great information to consider. I personally don’t care about my FICO score. At one time I did – but not now. With the exception of one credit card – we paid them all off and closed them. Essentially, the only credit debt we have is our house, the one card, and a leased vehicle. We pay for everything with cash now. If we can’t pay for it with case – we can’t afford it. Once the lease is up on the SUV – we’re buying a used one with cash. I know not everyone is in the same position as I am and may not have the resources available right now – but – lowering debt by any means (not including not paying your bills) is always a good option and a loan modification shouldn’t be ruled out just because it might hurt your credit score. That can always be fixed later. Ten years ago I had a FICO score of 450 because of my divorce and previous marriage. Since my divorce I have done a lot of repair and built my credit up. I hit 780 two years ago and have been consistent ever since. It has fluctuated as we paid off our debt and closed our accounts. It’s odd how having money in the bank and little to no debt changes your FICO score. Maybe that’s a good topic for one of your next posts.
Politics
Super Saver presents Holding Congressional Leaders Accountable posted at My Wealth Builder, saying, “Here’s a change I’d like to see happen.”
AMEN! We used to be able to hold our representatives and senators accountable before they put in the 17th Amendment. Prior to 1913 – Senators were appointed by the Governor and were subject to recall whenever the people felt the Senators were not acting on behalf of the people of that state. The 17th Amendment changed all that – that also marked the beginning of the progressive era in the U.S. I say we need to repeal the 17th Amendment.
Ann Margrain presents Road to Terrorism posted at Heroin and Cornflakes, saying, ““Terrorism is the greatest threat of the 21st century”, a phrase often uttered by our leading politicians. But does this statement hold true?”
WOW! I don’t know whether to laugh or be offended. You use terrorism and the horrors of 9/11 as a lead-in to car safety? I’m not real sure how to take that. What you presented with regards to roads, car safety, and transport tubes is very informational. I just think it loses its value when you lead in with something not even closely correlated.
Joe Garecht presents How to Get Elected Even if Nobody Knows You posted at Local Victory – Your Guide to Winning Elections, saying, “This recent article gives tips on how candidates can get elected, even if they are starting from square one, without name recognition.”
Those all great pointers. Very similar to getting recognized as a blogger in the blogosphere.
DWSUWF presents Scott Brown in Massachusetts: Hope or Delusion? posted at Divided We Stand United We Fall, saying, “Obama is stumping for Coakley using the same old”Change” mantra – exactly as if the last year never happened. Does he really have so little respect for Massachusetts voters that he thinks he can just repeat the same empty campaign slogans of a year ago? I mean – we now know what “change” means. It means two massive blowout omnibus spending bills with a combined 14,000 earmarks. It means a trillion dollar “stimulus” bill that didn’t stimulate anything, was written by the House of Representatives and was predominantly a vehicle to funnel money to Democratic districts. It means a trillion dollar Health Care “reform” bill that was written by big pharma, big insurance, and big union lobbyists and does not go into full effect until 2019 when it still will not cover 28 million Americans. It means a massive escalation of the War in Afghanistan. I guess if that is the kind of “change” Massachusetts wants, they should vote for a rubber stamp like Coakley.”
Let’s hope you have a lot of readers in Massachusetts and gets the whole DWSUWF point you are trying to make. While Brown is not what I would call a real conservative – the fact of the matter is that he is at least fiscally conservative and is on the right side of the issues. If anything – we need him to be there just to break that supermajority. Who’s to say though that once he gets in there that given his moderate leaning he wouldn’t vote with the Dems on other issues? Either way – let’s hope he wins so we can break the morale of the Dems and get rid of that horrendous health care bill. I realize you submitted this before the weekend – but – did you hear that Coakley said in a radio interview that Curt Schilling is a Yankee’s fan? LMAO – I think that alone may have just cost her the election regardless of what potential, of at all, bump P-BO could give her. She just offended the entire state with that comment.
Diana Hall presents Jesus killed my political apathy posted at damascusmoments.
Welcome to the world of politics. Given this day and age, I believe everyone should be passionately engaged in politics. It is because of our global apathy towards politics that we allowed politicians to ruin our lives and the global community as a whole. Politicians are supposed to be servants of the people and they have by nature now become self-serving and corrupt. Jesus knew this. We should have all heeded his actions and remained engaged.
smrtas1 presents Obama Proposes New Financial Crisis Responsibility Fee posted at Conservative Patriot HQ.
You’re spot on with the observation that this fee covers Geithner’s failure. If they really wanted to fix the banking crisis – the would get rid of the CRA, Fannie Mae & Freddie Mac – along with a few politicians directly involved. My wife and I had a discussion about this fee last night – if these taxes get passed on to us as fees at our bank – we’re switching to a local bank. Right now, we pay absolutely zero fees. There is a very reputable local bank with three branches. They started off just 5 years ago with only 1 in my neighborhood. They added their 3d branch this past year during the bank bailouts and they did not receive funds. I would encourage everyone that if they are with one of those top 50 banks and the taxes are passed on to them – start researching your local smaller banks and make the move.
