You must be younger than me. I remember in 6th grade having to recite the entire preamble to the constitution, memorizing the entire Paul Revere poem, and the first three paragraphs of the Gettysburg Address. By the time I was in high school, my history classes were jam packed and I had to remember every important date in history (First year of GW's presidency, the year the constitution was enacted, the Louisiana Purchase and the subsequent years of Lewis and Clark expedition, etc not to mention the fact I had to learn all of the Presidents and Vice Presidents to that present time). It's been over the last 20 years that American History no longer focuses on the founding fathers or the founding of this country. Rather it focuses on just the bad side of our history like slavery, the trail of tears, etc. - translates to white people are bad. In any case - I do have to agree with you that our public school system sucks and they are cramming socialism down the throats of our children. I already sent 4 through the public system.
