The BoBo Carnival of Politics – November 30, 2008 Edition
Posted by: The BoBo // Category: America, BoBo, Carnival, Congress, Conservative, Constitution, Democrats, Liberals, Obama, Politics, President, Rant, Russia, Socialism, Taxes, governmentHere we are – once again. Considering it was Thanksgiving Week – we still had a pretty good turnout with the submissions. I’m thinking this will probably be what it will be like through to the rest of the year as well given this being the holiday season and all! Hopefully, we’ll pick back up again after January. Also, you’ll notice a common theme in the majority of these posts (bailouts, personal responsibility, and the economy).
Democrats
RE Ausetkmt presents Lets Fix the Economy Mr President – Use the Paper it’s written on | BadGalsRadio – RootsRock since 99′ posted at BadGalsRadio Daily Blog, saying, “We are suggesting that the President Elect Barack Obama consider the most viable instant economic options available; including the industrialization of hemp and hemp products. if it was good enough for the founding fathers and he’s a constitutionalist he will recognize the relationship and put america back on the right economic trail.”
Welcome to the Carnival Ausetkmt. BTW – what prompted this latest round of pro-hemp articles on the blogosphere? Yours is about the 10th I’ve seen this week. Irregardless of what started it – I would have to agree with this post. Yes, there are some of us out here on the right that do know the difference between agricultural hemp and recreational marijuana. I don’t know the history – perhaps you can fill us in – what prompted the country to move away from hemp products? It is indeed a durable plant and can be used in a variety of manners. However, I don’t think this is the savior of our economic woes. Additionally, you stated that our forefathers were “users.” Are you referring to the hemp or the marijuana? If you’re talking about MJ – it would be great if you could provide some documented testimony.
Since I am a loyal constitutional conservative, and I read the founding fathers regularly – I have never come across anything that even hinted that any of those guys would sneak out behind Constitution Hall to take in a few tokes!
Liberal
Madeleine Begun Kane presents Dear Bush, Doesn’t Your Brush Need Clearing? posted at Mad Kane’s Political Madness.
Hey, Mad Kane – be careful of what you wish for there with the early retirement. This would be absolutely great and it would REALLY piss of the Democrats:
President Bush resigns (as you wish) Leaving Dick Cheney as the President. He then gets to choose who he wants as his Vice President. Dick Cheney chooses Condi Rice as his V.P.
President Cheney resigns (as you wish) Leaving Condi Rice as the President. Not only would SHE become the FIRST BLACK PRESIDENT – she would also be THE FIRST FEMALE PRESIDENT – even if it were for a short period of time – but – it would just absolutely piss you guys off on the left there. So – I agree – let them take an early retirement! LOL
SpkTruth2Pwr presents Motivation and Morale in Teamwork posted at The Apathy Remedy, saying, “How do you make sense of a group of individuals so that you maintain cohesiveness and utilize members effectively? This article argues the keys to coalition building lay in the ability to motivate others and maintain the morale as the leader of a group”
Eh – I’ll let this by considering I can see how this could be related to the incoming administration while Obama tries to build his cabinet. Actually, I remember all of these lessons when I was taking various management classes. However, regarding motivation and morale (specifically internal motivation) Given that Obama has chosen Clinton Term #3 for his cabinet members – they are all selfish individuals – unless Obama caters to their internal selfishness and quests for power – I don’t see how there will be improved morale in order to better this country. What I see is his cabinet members undermining him. He chose not to surround himself with his own people. He used Clinton’s people.
SpkTruth2Pwr presents Confidence Goes A Long Way: Economy Talk posted at The Apathy Remedy, saying, “What defines the foundations of a sound economy? Confidence. And it will best be established by trickle-up economics.”
This is a most excellent article. Yes, the bailout of CitiGroup and the cabinet announcements by Obama boosted the confidence in the stock market. However, the market is just a small player and a fraction of what makes up our “economy.” You need to look at CPI, GDP, GNP, and Worker Productivity as well. The only thing that is happening right now is that they have slowed down our journey to the big “R” as you put it. In fact, the economic experts are still saying that we will be in a full blown depression by this time next year. In fact, these bailouts will ultimately be the downfall of the economy because the treasury is just printing money to cover these commitments. Our dollar continues to be devalued around the world because it’s getting to the point it is almost not worth the paper it’s being printed on. I wouldn’t rely on the ups and downs of the stock market as an indicator of economic prosperity or doom. Lastly, trickle-up economics, IMHO, will never work. I’ve never gotten a job from a poor person!
SpkTruth2Pwr presents Institutions CAN work for you posted at The Apathy Remedy, saying, “We can all be distrustful of institutions! But this article will tell you why you shouldn’t be and how you can actually derive some benefit from them!”
This kind of goes together with Archvillain’s post. I don’t have anything further to add to this. You put everything together quite eloquently and I’m in full agreement here.
Miscellaneous
Mark presents Obama Tee Shirts Japan: Yes We Can posted at Lets Japan, saying, “Obama user-designed tee shirts debuted minutes after election on Japan instant-printing website.”
Okay, Mark. This is blatant advertising. However, considering it is still politics related and some of my lefty readers might actually like some of this stuff – I’ll leave it up!
News
Ron McKie presents My dick just got hard posted at Phuck Politics.
That’s pretty funny! (The title, not the article). But, I will agree with the article – I hope that Russian economist is correct. I’ve been saying the same thing – we need to reset our economy and let the free-market work its magic rather than moving towards socialism with these freakin’ bailouts. I don’t necessarily agree with the assessment that the country will fracture like that though! You must be a gamecock! LOL.
Archvillain presents Epic Fail-out posted at A Dark and Sinister Force for Good, saying, “Everything old is new again … and brings the same bad consequences”
Nice to see ya here again Archvillain. Once again, a most excellent post. I agree wholeheartedly with your resolution – I started a blogroll (which started right before blogrolling went down so I only got one person signed on) that is sorta related to your solution. I say there should NEVER be an incumbent politician. It’s the career politicians that put us on this path – and – in staying with personal responsibility – we the people were irresponsible by not paying attention to the crap they were pulling all these years.
Silicon Valley Blogger presents Second Stimulus Check: Strong Opinions On A Second Economic Stimulus Package posted at The Digerati Life.
YES YES YES! I like the way you guys think! You’ll see some comments here very similar to what you guys are stating over there. I say, HELL NO to a second stimulus package. I love the way you guys translate the Bernanke “gobbledigook” as you put it. Do you think we have anybody left up in D.C. that might actually see the dangers in this proposal?
Politics
Matthew S. Urdan presents The Presidential Pardon Explained posted at Inside Government.
Matt – this is very timely considering Bush is handing out his pardons now. You did a great job of explaining this process. Now – can you tell me why a drug-dealing rapper would get let off – but two border agents who shot a drug-dealer in the ass stay in jail?
Joshua Dorkin presents Builders’ Confidence Drops Like An Elevator With A Snapped Cable “Crisis” May Hand Obama A Golden Opportunity posted at Real Estate Investing For Real.
Hey Joshua – very interesting post there. I can see how, using the comparison with FDR, that Obama could score points. However, it didn’t look like you said it directly, but – it seems like you might approve of a bailout for homeowners?!?! Personally, I hope that doesn’t happen. I say, let the free-market system work it’s magic. Let those people who never should have bought a home lose them. There will be a large inventory of previously owned homes – bringing prices down considerably. However, investors will be ready to grab them up. As the homes continue to get bought up by investors and those who actually can afford to own a home, prices go up and new construction happens once again. It will take time – but – it would absolutely suck for the government to come in and save those unqualified homeowners from their mortgage lenders. What about the other 94% of the country that are still paying their mortgages on time? Let’s not save the minority again at the expense of the majority.
Ron McKie presents God fucking damn posted at Phuck Politics.
A most excellent rant there Mr. McKie! I couldn’t have said it better myself. That commitment of $7.7 trillion is the basis of my discussion with SpkTruth2Pwr up there. Our economy will be in a total tailspin by this time next year because of all that tender being printed up and handed to every crooked business in this country.
U.S. Common Sense presents Bailout or Bankruptcy: What will Congress recommend? posted at U.S. Common Sense, saying, “Do the automakers deserve a bailout or do they deserve bankruptcy? Maybe they deserve both. See how.”
Hey, U.S. – thanks for the submission. You snuck this one just under the line! I’m all for the bankruptcy thing if it means breaking all the union contracts. I say – let them fail – then – let them move to right to work states! Excellent discussion here.
