Welcome to the March 29, 2009 edition of the bobo carnival of politics. I need to apologize for the short posts of the previous editions of this carnival. The last few weeks have been very intense with everything going on in the real world that my time has been extremely limited. But, I managed to squeeze a little extra time out of today in order to really check out all the submission. I am once again amazed at the varying and most excellent posts. I think you will enjoy them as well. If you find one or some that you are interested in – please do go by the contributor’s blog(s) and let them know how you feel there also.
Conservative
Steve Parry presents Team Obama In Prevent Mode posted at The Axis of Stevil, saying, “This week in Preview.”
Hey Steve – long time no see! I was beginning to wonder if you were still blogging. This is a great discussion regarding the AIG bailouts and the great job Obama did of feigning his outrage to distract everyone from the fact that he is actually responsible for it. Given that Wall Street and the majority of those big fat cats are liberals who contributed to his campaign – I would have to agree – he’s protecting his friends rather than looking out for this country. I also agree with you that he would throw them under the bus in a heartbeat as he has his other “friends.”
Curry Kenworthy presents Don’t miss the tea party! posted at Curry Kenworthy, saying, “Thanks to many local tea party groups and a big recent boost from the American Family Association, there will be a tea party near you. Be there!”
Hey Curry – you were spot on before when you were calling on Conservatives to become activists versus our long standing position of standing on the sidelines and pointing at the Liberals. I too am happy to see America finally waking up. As for the Tea Parties – my post prior to this one has a complete list of all the states with links to finding local Tea Parties.
lsm presents Bringing Drugs to America? No Problemo. posted at awaken the elephants blog.
..and with Hillary placing the blame on America for Mexico’s problems – it just doesn’t get any better does it? I would like to add to your discussion regarding Phoenix – the emphasis should be on 368 REPORTS. It is actually estimated to be much higher than that. We could have prevented a lot of this if that damned fence would have been built 2 1/2 years ago like we the people requested. But, nope – according to Pelosi – we who want our immigration laws enforced and the fences built are un-American while illegal immigrants are patriots. Until there is a fundamental change in our politicians – this problem will not be resolved and will only get worse.
Paul Gable presents There’s Something Happening Here… posted at Paul Gable.
I’m feeling it too Paul. I think this is one of the MUST READs of the week. I’ve been telling my wife for quite some time there seems to be an under current of discontent flowing through this country and that the people are beginning to wake up. The “dots” that you point out are to be connected pretty soon.
Selkirk presents Admittedly, I’ve Lost My Sense of America posted at Political Castaway Blog: Broadcasting Conservatism to Rescue America.
Don’t give up Selkirk. That’s just what the enemy wants. It’s called divide and conquer. I still believe there are enough of us out here who do remember and continue to fight the good fight. America is still a great nation – I think there are a minority that are trying to change the direction. Look around – there is a peaceful revolution in the process here. I think it’s going to turn around.
Michael Bass presents Haley Barbour’s Revealing Veto Pen posted at Debt Prison, saying, “You need look no further to determine what’s wrong with the Republican Party than to examine two recent bills which made its way to the Mississippi Governor’s desk.”
Good lord, man! Eminent domain is part of the backbone of this country. Our founding fathers believed in life, liberty, and property (which as you know they changed to “pursuit of happiness” in the final version). You are right – Republicans have lost touch.
Liberal
Madeleine Begun Kane presents Ode To The Easily Offended posted at Mad Kane’s Political Madness.
You know – you always come up with some pretty interesting ditties there and sometimes ones that I actually agree with. Somehow, it seems that you and I are starting to agree more often like this one. However, I think what I should point out is that I think you might be starting to come over to the “dark side.” It was Liberals who started the political correctness crap. I actually found Obama’s comments on Leno quite humorous. People need to lighten up. Sometimes a joke is just a joke.
Libertarian
NotYourDaddy presents Economics Lessons for Liberals: Inflation posted at Government is not your Daddy., saying, “When the Fed prints new money, it devalues all the money that’s currently in circulation. Printing more money literally dilutes the value of everybody’s savings, investments, salaries, and retirement funds.”
This discussion together with Nickel’s and Ian’s should start raising the alarms for everyone. I think you described the shell game that politicians and the money handlers up in D.C. play with us every day very well. And – your target audience is right on – why is it those liberals just don’t seem to understand inflation and the risk-reward model of free-markets?
Miscellaneous
nickel presents Velocity: The “Speed” of Money posted at fivecentnickel.com.
Wow- I learn something new every day. When I first saw the title of this post I thought it was a joke. I guess that is one of the dangers of living in a free-market capitalist society. Well, I guess that’s not entirely true either is it? We shouldn’t be letting the banks control that speed should we? Your last statement made me chuckle – did you see this last week’s episode of South Park? It was about Stan’s dad converting everyone in to savers to please “the economy” and he took on a Pontius Pilate persona versus Kyle who was encouraging everyone to spend to save “the economy” and he took on the Jesus persona. And “the economy” was God. It was quite amusing.
J.D. Bell presents Dr. Seuss Explains The Bailout | it-takes-work.com posted at It Takes Work.
J.D. – a very humorous and creative way of explaining this issue. Spot on – and thanks for the submission. I think my toddler could understand it now.
Mar Matthias Darin presents Liberals say no to Renewable energy posted at The Matthias Chronicles, saying, “Commentary on Obama’s March 24th news conference in relation to liberal opposition of renewable energy.”
Mar Matthias – welcome back to the Carnival – I think this post has out done the one you submitted last week. I think the Liberals are just waiting for the other super-powers like China and Russia to just run all over us. Russia is now building a special Arctic military force to stake a claim to the oil reserves in the Arctic region. While those Liberals keep talking about Iraq as a War for Oil – they will soon see just what that really is. I agree – we need to use our own resources. To not do so is just idiotic and will weaken this country.
Vichuda presents Indonesia Politics posted at Kota Medan City Indonesia.
Vichuda – thanks for educating us on a political process outside of the U.S. I think it is important for us all to understand the politics in other countries to understand how we’re all connected and how process in other countries can effect us here.
Silicon Valley Blogger presents Financial Crisis In The Media: Is The Economic Crisis Overhyped? posted at The Digerati Life, saying, “Thanks!”
Anytime SVB – I’ve been questioning this “crisis” myself. I understand unemployment is up around the country – but – I just don’t see the “crisis.” While I certainly think there may be another shoe yet to drop – I think it might be over-hyped right now. Personally, I think they are just continuing this “crisis” to find ways to continue to blame Bush to deflect attention away from Obama and the real mess he’s causing.
C. E. Dowalt presents The Madness of King Obama posted at Money Confidential.
I agree – he is not thinking of the economy at all – he doesn’t understand the economic or basic economics. If he did, he wouldn’t continue these disastrous policies. I think it is ALL about politics and trying to expand the powers of Government and expand the powers of the Executive office. You’re spot on C.E.
Bob O presents The “isms” of Economies and Government posted at Inside Government.
Yes – I wrote this. It’s a detailed explanation and comparison of capitalism, communism, fascism, marxism, and socialism. I wrote it to help clear up the differences considering many people are tossing these terms around without really understanding what they mean and how they came about.
News
Ian Welsh presents The Executive Coup posted at Ian Welsh, saying, “The Fed has announced $2 trillion of new spending, none of it approved of by Congress. Not to put too fine a point on it, but that’s a lot of money.”
Ian – thanks for explaining the new plan in such great detail. I will admit I really haven’t been able to put much effort in to understanding what was going on. In the MSM they make it sound like the Government/Private Investor relationship for bailing out the toxic assets as a 50/50 split. I think there would be a little more outrage by the public if they really understood how this program is set up – and I think your blog and your discussion on this is a great resource.
Politics
Aetius Romulous presents Free Markets Are Not Rational posted at ScreamBucket.
While you do seem to make a good argument against free-markets – it is still better than those “isms” – see the above submission from Inside Government. I would also like to point out that Adam Smith was somewhat of an eccentric and that some suggest that perhaps he wasn’t completely in his right mind. in his Theory of Moral Sentiments he actually contradicts himself from The Wealth of Nation in pushing more for social interactions (socialism) in economic transactions. I noticed you take umbrage with free-markets – but – you offer no solution. What do you think is the solution if it isn’t free-market capitalism?
