According to Virginia Police Officer – This “aint” America no more
Posted by: The BoBo // Category: A Nation at Risk, America, Constitution, Fascism, Politics, governmentThis is just un-freakin’ believable. A police officer in Virginia targeting a protester and stifling free speech – check out the video – We’re in some serious trouble people. This police officer obviously is not a member of The Oath Keepers.
If you’re wondering and you couldn’t see the poster real clearly – here is what he was holding up that the officer said was not allowed:
Pay attention to that last part of the exchange:
The protester said – “This used to be America”
Officer Cheeks said – “It ain’t no more, OK?”
This officer needs to be held accountable. The attempted argument is that because the protest and town hall meeting were being held on school grounds – the rest of the public is held to the same standards as the day time students where their free speech rights are squashed. That is rubbish. These are not students; there were no classes in session; and this was not an official school board function. At the point this protest was held after school – it just became another meeting place.

I googled freedom of speech on school property. I found that a state can limit free speech on public school property but that does not mean it has been in this case. The law may be during school and by teachers, administrators, and students. I think the law would not apply if a member of congress holds a town hall meeting on school grounds (at night) which in itself is a political gathering. I would think freedom of political speech would apply during such a gathering.
Now the officer, tresspassing would NOT be the charge. It is an open to the public event, how could it be tresspassing? It should be very frightening to the citizens he SERVES to know he thinks he can charge a person with whatever crime he sees fit. That alone should get him fired. He says his objection was to the picture. What I would like to know is was it a crime when the left was making the same picture with Bush? I would also like to know if this isn’t America anymore, what is it?
Maybe this guy should have forced the officer to arrest him for a crime he didn’t commit. Then turn the liberal table against him and sue the city for wrongful prosecution or imprisonment, or whatever some lawyer could come up with.

Our church didn’t have a building for about a year and it rented out the gym of a local high school to hold services every sunday, so CLEARLY the rules are different for a school building when school is in session and when it is not. The building itself is just a building. During the weekday it is taken over by the School District to hold public school there, at other times the building may be rented out or used in other means. If we could have church in a public school building, I’m pretty sure a poster can be held up during an after-school-hours event. I don’t know the rules of this school or district, but I doubt the officer had a leg to stand on.

Many officers don’t know what the hell they are talking about. I have 3 very good friends who are cops, and they are great at what they do, and I would trust them with my life, but none of them ever took a con law class so how could they understand what is constitutional and what isn’t?

@MJ – ready for this…turns out…this guy isn’t even a Police Officer – he is a freakin’ security guard for the school board – talk about overstepping some serious boundaries. You can read the details here: http://caseybrownmyers.blogspot.com/2009/08/obama-police-officer-suppresses-dissent.html
