The BoBo Carnival of Politics – October 4, 2009 Edition
Posted by: The BoBo // Category: BoBo, Carnival, Conservative, Liberals, Politics, blogs, libertarianWelcome one and all to yet another great edition of The BoBo Carnival of Politics. I’m writin’ this and watchin’ the Steelers vs. Chargers. Let’s hope the Steelers don’t screw it up again this weekend.
We have a great selection for you to choose from. Please visit these bloggers and let them know what you think!
Conservative
SVB presents Saving Money Is In! The Recession Diet and The Shift To Frugal Living posted at The Digerati Life, saying, “Are our habits going to change because of this recession?”
Let’s hope so. We’ve become a nation of consumers instead of producers. That fact is really beginning to play out now as not only is our economy tanking, but, because we shipped out all of our production – it is now a national security issue as China has taken that money and built a military force to be reckoned with. Great post.
TSW presents Credit Crisis and Subprime Card Traps posted at The Smarter Wallet, saying, “the changing face of the financial industry”
Great guest post. I too have a similar story. I kept one credit card to use for business related expenses. When I got the card, it had an $18,000 limit and a 9% APR. In December 2008 I got a notice saying they were increasing my APR to 27%. I obviously canceled that card immediately. I thought the bailouts were supposed to help the banks sell off that toxic debt? Apparently not as I hear that debt is still on the books, ergo the reason why these banks are now literally financially raping their good customers. How do they expect to stay in business this way?
Liberal
Madeleine Begun Kane presents Newt?s Bilingual Newspeak posted at Mad Kane’s Political Madness.
While I agree with Newt that we need to have English as a national language – I can appreciate you pointing out the hypocrisy here. I really hate politicians!
Libertarian
Tim King presents The Semantics of “Healthcare Reform” posted at J. Timothy King’s Freedom Blog, saying, “When liberals coined the term “healthcare reform,” they won a significant battle in the healthcare debate, one of which we still feel the effects.”
Excellent post, Tim. Spot on. My readers need to see this and follow that link you put up from The Cato Institute. I might also like to add that this has absolutely nothing to do with healthcare – it is all about health insurance – two completely different things. If this were really about reforming healthcare, there would actually be legislation written in there that would help to make access to healthcare more affordable rather than making access to government controlled health insurance affordable. Health insurance is NOT a right!
Tallahassee Real Estate presents Did Growth Management Cause The Housing Bubble? posted at Tallahassee Real Estate Blog, saying, “A new white paper was released yesterday by the Cato Institute which boldly claims that the cause of the housing bubble isn’t what everybody else has been talking about for the past few years. In this policy analysis, Randy O’Toole argues that the blame rests on a regulatory system known as growth management, saying”
Very interesting. Living in Pasco County here in Florida, growth management was, and still is, a very big issue. However, what seems to get in the news is that permits are going to “preferred” developers. We also have council members who want to limit growth in Pasco. I never tied growth management (or creating an artificial supply/demand for housing) to the problem. This was an eye opener.
News
Allen Scott presents What?s the Hurry? posted at A View from the Nest, saying, “A picture is worth a thousand words.”
Spot on Allen! In the last 3 months he has only spoken to McChrystal 2 times. Since he came in office he has spoken with the IOC 30 times. This President’s priorities are all screwed up. On a side note – I got this submission three times! LOL. You only need to submit one time – I will get it.

Politics
debergerac78 presents Note to the D.C. Council: that’s no way to pass a code of ethics! posted at The Business Ethics Blog, saying, “The D.C. Council’s reaction to ex-mayor Marion Barry’s latest shenanigan is to put out a Code of Ethics that does little other than state the obvious. And this is their first Code of Ethics ever.”
Welcome back Debergerac – It just amazes me that Barry continues to find his way in to D.C. politics. It took him giving a contract to an ex-girlfriend to get them to put a code of conduct in place? I guess the drug use wasn’t enough? Good one.
Archvillain presents All Enemies, Foreign or Domestic « A Dark and Sinister Force for Good posted at A Dark and Sinister Force for Good, saying, “This country has a revolution every two years in the voting booths. That is the proper way to change the Government. Opening the 4th Box without using the first three is Stupid.”
I can get behind you on this one. While I think P-BO might actually be a decent person – the fact of the matter is I vehemently oppose everything he stands for. But, it is always highly inappropriate for anyone to ever call for the assassination of an American president, regardless of who is in office.
Surbhi Bhatia presents Indo-Pak Relations: Borderline Fractures posted at The Viewspaper » The Viewspaper.
Hey Surbhi – welcome to the carnival! Thanks for submitting this – it is always great to get to know more about the lives and politics of other countries. After having read this, I can’t imagine having an actual border war with our neighbors. I know we did well over a hundred years ago – but – we have moved beyond that. I hope for your respective countrys’ sake, as well as the people, there can ultimately be a peaceful resolution.
That concludes this edition. Submit your blog article to the next edition of The BoBo Carnival of Politics using our carnival submission form. Past posts and future hosts can be found on our blog carnival index page.

Sorry boss I must have forgotten I submitted to your carnival and did so again and again. MY BAD and I stand corrected.
They say it is a sign of old age when you start to forget things. But I forgot why they say that.
Thanks for including me even though I hounded you with 3 submissions.

Health care is NOT a right
Oh, but they TRY that one…under the “general welfare” clause of the Constitution. But you look up general welfare in the dictionary, and it says “to provide for the NEEDY.”
Okay–define “needy.” I’ll do it: those who truly cannot lift a finger to help themselves, because they’re paralyzed from the neck down, or have super-bad heart conditions that Medicare won’t cover to repair, or other conditions that render one completely incapacitated. Even Stephen Hawking can earn money to feed, clothe, and house himself, plus pay for the medical care and daily assistance he needs to function, BUT HE DOES IT ON HIS OWN!Blind people still work, as well as people with missing limbs. So why do perfectly normal people run around here like they’re SO special because of their health problems? Compared to Stephen Hawking, they HAVE no health problems! So they expect us to pay for their bad habits. So typical of the “something-for-nothing” class.Meanwhile, we have throngs of able people begging for the public option, and they aren’t even doing a thing to take care of themselves to eliminate the need for drop-of-the-hat doctor visits for every sniffle and sneeze that occurs. The same people you see in the drive-thru lane at your local Junk Food Palace are the same ones suffering from a supposed lack of insurance–they have money to spend on flat-screen TVs, fast food, tricked-out cars, “hot” clothing, and a squadron of kids (plus minivan to haul them around in), but there’s nothing left in the budget for health care. Or another scene: at the grocery store, they grab a cart, head straight for the junk food aisle, load up, then cruise right through the produce section on their way to the checkout–no stops, not even for a head of iceberg lettuce! Then they buy a box of Marlboros at the checkout.Nope, they can’t afford health insurance, but they work the system to get their credit card debt lowered, their mortgage principal lowered, and all the government freebies they can qualify for (even if they have to quit their job to do it). Health care is not a right–but neither is Olympic-class moochery to the point of bringing our government down!Obama is creating what he wants most: a dependent public willing to do his bidding. The only way to get a dependent public is to fool them into thinking there’s a free lunch in Congress, and it needs voting on RIGHT NOW! (Enter Billy Mays sales pitch)
