The BoBo Carnival of Politics – November 22, 2009 Edition
Posted by: The BoBo // Category: BoBo, Carnival, Conservative, Democrats, Liberals, Politics, blogs, governmentHi All – well – quite the interesting day yesterday – took the kids to Disney yesterday for a birthday party for one of my son’s little friends. It was a great day – and ended with a once-in-a-lifetime experience for me. Space Mountain was open for a “test drive” as the sign said and it is supposed to be “officially re-opened” today. I used my fast pass and moved up to the front of the line – that line had a 70 minute wait. I haven’t been on that ride in almost 10 years because they were continuously shutting it down and it hasn’t been open in like the past 7 or 8 years. Well – It was as I remembered – the ride was great – then it just suddenly stopped at the peak of a hill. I thought it was a small pause before going over – then after a minute – all the lights in the place came on. I was stuck on the ride for about 15 minutes before they finally sent someone up to come get me. It was also the last ride of the night – they shut it down for good for the evening. The great part was being able to see the entire ride..and..to get me out, we had to climb down the ride to the floor. It’s an amazing looking ride and it is actually 8 stories high – there is an elevator right in the middle of the whole structure. My car stopped on the 3d floor – I figure my ride was just about over anyway when it stopped. I wanted to get pictured, but, because of the way the lap bar comes down, my blackberry was pinned down in my pocket and I couldn’t get to it. Those would have been some sweet pics. I feel really bad for those people who had waited for so long and were next in line only to be told the ride was shut down!
Anyway – enough of that – I know you came here to read the submissions. We have some really good one’s today – make sure you check them out and visit their blogs.
Welcome to the November 22, 2009 edition of The BoBo Carnival of Politics.
Conservative
Selkirk presents Lifting the Skirt on Obamacare posted at Political Castaway Blog: Broadcasting Conservatism to Rescue America, saying, “Hey Bob, it’s been a while. Thought I’d toss in a new one at you. Hope you’re well. S”
Hey – Selkirk – welcome back to the carnival! Yup, all is well – just been extremely busy – which is a good think in today’s economy.

I have several female colleagues who were extremely upset by this decision from the government. Two I know are breast cancer survivors, one who found hers before she was 40 as the result of a self-exam and confirmation from a mammogram and the other who found hers while she was in her 40′s. Public health statistics have consistently proven that pre-screening, not only for breast cancer, but for all other health issues is very beneficial and has helped to prevent illness or detect the illness in the very early stages whereby increasing our survival and cure rates. This is nothing more than political posturing, and is as you say, a first shot at government rationing of health care. Ridiculous!
Scott Spiegel presents Obama Approves Troop Increase in Southern District of New York posted at Scott Spiegel.
This will either be the shortest trial in history or one of the longest. It will be the shortest if KSM has a lawyer worth anything. Our Federal court system can’t get around the 4th & 5th amendment – KSM was not marandized. Everything we learned and know about KSM and his ties to 9/11 will be thrown out on day one. After that – there is nothing else to try him on other than being an enemy combatant on the field of battle. This is the most ridiculous and absolutely idiotic thing this country could ever do – criminalizing a war.
Democrats
SVB presents New Credit Card Rules, Opting Out of Interest Rate Increases posted at The Digerati Life, saying, “I discuss the new credit card rules, which are part of the new CARD Act that the government is signing in to law. Law and regulations will be in full effect by early 2010.”
I had a BoA card as well with a 9.9% interest rate and for no reason at all – they bumped that rate to 27.5%. Shortly after that my WAMU card went from 10% to 26% and my Chase card went from 12.5% to 25%. This is freakin’ ridiculous. If I could opt out and pay off the balances I wouldn’t have had need for those cards in the first place. Luckily, I was already in the process of paying off those cards using a snowball approach from Dave Ramsey. The only problem is that I have to pay those outstanding balances at the new higher interest rates. Once again – just more proof that when the government gets involved, it’s we real people in the real world that get hurt. Your post was once again very informative. I’m sure this will be helpful to some of my readers out there.
Liberal
Madeleine Begun Kane presents Stupak Stupidity posted at Mad Kane’s Political Madness.
Other than the RNC showing what hypocrits they are I think the big point everyone is missing with regards to this insurance and abortion issue is that the insurance companies only cover abortion if employers pay to have it in the benefit package. You can’t pin that on the insurance companies – they are selling a product that the consumer wants.
Madeleine Begun Kane presents Fraidy-Cat Republicans posted at Mad Kane’s Political Madness.
Mad Kane – please see my response to Scott Spiegel above – and – read his post. The fear is that this man will get off and this will be a mockery of our court system. What will you be saying when KSM is set free because the government was not allowed to present any evidence because it is ALL thrown out in a civilian criminal court because he was never marandized? How do you think our federal court system can get around the 4h and 5th amendment? Never in history has an enemy combatant been tried in a civilian court. Precedence says KSM NEEDS to be tried by a military tribunal.
News
Braudis Lee Pegram presents The Federal Reserve Abolished And Currency Issued Only By The Government posted at The koH Resources Blog.
Braudis – what a novel concept! Get rid of the central bank – where have I heard that before? Oh, that’s right, Thomas Jefferson and Andrew Jackson. It was already proven in the early 1800′s that central banks don’t work. The Fed is proving once again that central banks don’t work. I agree, we need to abolish the fed and get back to a decentralized banking system where our monetary system is actually run by the Treasury – after all – that is why the treasury was created.
U.S. Common Sense presents When the government and internet advertising collide posted at U.S. Common Sense, saying, “Looking at the Federal Trade Commissions possible increase in authority over online advertising.”
Thanks for this submission. When this news first broke a month ago, I had planned on doing a post about it myself. I’m glad you did – so – now I don’t. This is a huge issue that all bloggers need to pay attention to. I too have a disclosure notice on my sidebar down to the bottom right there. As you pointed out in your post – those boneheads up in D.C. don’t know what we do and they don’t understand it – so – they need to get out of it. The other part that came about from this is the reviews and free samples to do the reviews. They apparently want bloggers who receive free products for the purpose of writing those reviews to report those as income to be taxed. This is just more crazy stuff coming from big brother.
Politics
Albie presents Be like a doctor when thinking about international development (5 Lessons from the economic development of Bolivia & Poland) posted at iDevelopWorld.
Albie – very interesting post. I too like Sach’s concept of treating the ills of the economy in a medical diagnostic sense. However, given what is going on here in the U.S., I think Sachs would probably recommend pulling the plug!
Chell presents A Bill Long Enough to Shade Our Eyes from Reality posted at Chell’s Roost.
Chell – welcome to the carnival and thanks for this submission. You are a blogger after my own heart. I’ve been railing on this same issue for a long time. Health insurance is a CONSUMER PRODUCT. You are absolutely right to question how it is the federal government thinks they have the authority to mandate free people to purchase a consumer product. As we all know already, those idiots in D.C. already moved to bring this bill to the floor. I have no doubt they will pass it in the Senate through bribery and just plain ignorance of the mood of this country. This is a great and very detailed look at the problems with this bill and the course that Congress is taking right now. I look forward to reading more from you. Let’s hope enough people have woken up so that November 2010 becomes an absolute rout and we get rid of all those idiots – Republicans and Democrats.
Ann Margrain presents US Correctional System: a story of rape and profit posted at Heroin and Cornflakes, saying, ““A budget is more than simply numbers on a page. It is a measure of how well we are living up to our obligations to ourselves and one another,” says President Barack Obama on the home page of the Office of Management and Budget. Elegant words. But is there any credence in his statement?”
Hey Ann, would you happen to be in public health? The way you presented this post and the associated statistics is like reading the MWR and other public health studies. While I certainly get where you are going and understand what you are trying to accomplish (I published a study on TB in prisons) I really do not have a whole lot of sympathy for criminals who are rightly sentenced to prison. I think Joe Arapaio has the correct model that our entire prison system needs to be modeled on – unfortunately – this liberal administration has demonized him. I think we spend waaaay too much money on our prison system as it is – these “corrections” facilities don’t “correct” anything.
Ann Margrain presents What’s the racket?: A story of poverty in the USA posted at Heroin and Cornflakes, saying, “Earlier this month, the Happy Planet Index 2.0. annual worldwide review was published. It reported that the people of Costa Rica have the highest life satisfaction in the world and have the second-highest average life expectancy of the Americas (second only to Canada). The USA was listed way down at 114th place. This seems surprising when you consider the USA still has the largest economy of any single country.”
Hey Ann – I read your statistics – however, I think what you should do is take another look at the statistics you have actually provided here – it’s called the “me” factor that liberal policies have created in this country. ‘Poverty’ in America is an abstract created by our liberal politicians. Check out the census bureau definition. Poverty in America is relative to other Americans. Our poorest are the richest in the rest of the world. When you consider a family of four with a family income of $26,000/yr is considered to be in the poverty threshold – you really have to question the motives of the government. When you look at the statistics you provided regarding Medicaid and Medicare – government welfare subsidies – you realize just how large this “me” factor plays in to the “happiness” factor you report on. Of course Americans are gonna say they are unhappy if their station in life relative to the rest of America is lower – even though they have the government providing their health care, their food, their housing, and an income through welfare payments, even though they are earning $26,000/year. They just aren’t satisfied with anything. They would rather game the system and blame their failure on the rich – which is what liberal policies do – they breed slaves to the government. If you really want to fight poverty in the U.S. – get rid of all these welfare programs and make people work for a living and help them to get an education. Socialism and social programs will be the bane of our destruction.
smrtas1 presents Scientists Supressing Facts Against Global Warming posted at Conservative Patriot HQ.
Yeah – I heard about this as well. Doesn’t surprise me at all. However, I’ve been reading some comments from others on the original story – and – those libtards are still believing this crap even though there is now concrete evidence that all the statistics are bogus and manufactured. Those libtards really are just blind idiots. This is absolute proof global warming is a hoax – yet – there are still nimrods out there citing the faked statistics to try to prove their point that despite this disclosure – global warming still exists. Just further proof that Lenin was right – liberals are just useful idiots with weapons grade stupidity. Great post – I hope more bloggers like yourself continue to beat this drum.

Space Mountain, I believe, is the very first roller coaster I’ve ridden in my life 31 years ago. I screamed the entire ride. Pitch black inside, if I remember correctly. Yeah, sounds like you had the ride of your life. So cool that you get to see the inside of that monstrous roller coaster.
Enjoyed reading all the submissions. With the way Politics are going in our country at the moment, I’m afraid we’ll be the next socialist country. I hope that November 2012 will change that and prove me wrong.
