Don’t rely on the government, get your own health insurance

Posted by: The BoBo  //  Category: government, health care, making money

You know – one of the biggest things that this so-called health reform bill is supposed to do is make health insurance more affordable.  First, that is absolutely idiotic.  There are already places out there where you can get cheap health insurance.  If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a hundred times  – this health care bill has nothing to do with affordable ACCESS to health care – it is all about increasing the size of government and giving them more control over your lives.

If you are one of those out there that doesn’t have employer based health insurance, Medicaid, Medicare or whatever, just look and you can find affordable coverage.  That link up there is just one of many.  Do some research and I am sure you can find affordable coverage for yourself, or if you have a family – for everyone in your family.  That link up there will take you to a place called Insurance Specialists.  They have a lot of good information and will give you a quick quote.

I have seen literally dozens of commercials on the TV from all kinds of insurers offering health insurance.  Don’t rely on the government to provide health insurance for you – this will just make you a slave to the government and I guarantee you that you will not have the choices that you can by purchasing your own coverage through a private insurer.  Besides, a government run plan will probably cost you more than if you were to buy your own coverage.  The CBO has already come out and stated that premiums would rise under the government run plan.  Is that what you want?

Be responsible and do your own research, starting with the link I provided, and take control of your own needs for yourself and your family.

No BoBo…there are so many out there that think it will be for free.  They think this government is going to solve all their problems.  Sheep BoBo, sheep they are.   :(

That is so true isn’t it?  I keep forgetting – everything from the government is free.

Are those policies any good?  Isn’t Montel Williams hawking something like this on TV?

Hi Harrison – I haven’t seen the Montel Williams show. I’ve looked in to these policies before. I pay a boatload of money for my employer based health insurance. These type of policies can be customized and are sometimes cheaper depending on what type of coverage you elect. If you’re fairly healthy, you wouldn’t need a policy that covers much more than basic hospitalization, emergencies, and preventative care. I have a family of four – so I would need more coverage because of my little ones. I’m seriously considering dropping the employer coverage and switching to one of these.

I just bought an individual policy.  They excluded my one year old daughter because she had to get tubes in her ears.  My agent said denials of coverage like this have been increasing over the last year, and it is to the point where he said it is pretty insane right now for anyone to get coverage through an individual plan.  Needless to say my options were pretty limited, and my daughter is on a temporary plan.  If you think Toys-r-Us is bad, the insurance industry in general is a disaster.  I have always said that I hate the health insurance industry and I hate the government, so why would I be in favor of a merger between the two?  However, my current coverage costs $450 a month.  When I was on an employer plan the total cost of the plan including my employer’s contribution was $1100 a month.  This is for the exact same policy from the exact same company.  I would be way better off just having my employer give me raise of $600 a month, and I will pay for my own insurance.  An example of how when you screw around with free markets you end up getting screwed.

Burro – did they exclude her completely or just any coverage for the ear stuff? Under HIPAA they should still cover her for everything else. If she goes 6 months without treatment for the condition then she can be covered again for that illness. Given the condition, that is a very common ailment in babies and is only a temporary thing. Anyway – I’m sorry to hear about your issues – however – I’m also in agreement with you that it still is not government’s responsibility to cover everyone. If anything – there should be rules set in place that says if you want your want coverage for the pre-existing condition – you can have it – but – it could come at a higher cost since, if it is a chronic condition – it is going to cost more for the insurance company to pay out claims on it – and there should also be provisions that say if you go so long without active treatment condition – they should then bring down the premiums. Government isn’t the answer – free market principles are.
