The BoBo Carnival of Politics – January 31, 2010 Edition
Posted by: The BoBo // Category: BoBo, Carnival, Conservative, Liberals, Politics, Republicans, blogs, government, libertarianHi All – and welcome to yet another great carnival. Back home now from a quick mini-vacation over in the land of Mickey. I’m more tired now than I was before I left. Maybe I need to stop taking vacations.
Anyway – just wanted to let you all know – given that next Sunday is Super Bowl Sunday – there will not be a carnival next week. The next edition comes out the following week – Sunday, February 14, 2010 – The Valentine’s Day Edition! I doubt if there will be too much love in the political world that day!
Conservative
Scott Spiegel presents Bernanke: Too Big Not to Fail posted at Scott Spiegel.
I was disappointed that he was reconfirmed. This man knew very well what was coming down the pike. He is a so-called “scholar” of the Great Depression. He had to see the signs – yet – he raised the interest rates immediately after taking over and that is when the housing bubble burst. I believe he intentionally set things in motion knowing exactly what would happen. The Fed and the politicians cause these problems so they can come in and act like they are the saviors knowing full well their harmful policies is what caused the messes in the first place. We need to get rid of the fed altogether. Great post as always Scott. I think those so-called “experts” you pointed out are scared of losing their power, positions, and money so they are continuing to prop this guy up. He needs to fail just as much as our financial system needed to fail. Let free-market capitalism work and lets reset the economy the way it is supposed to be. All these idiots keep doing is delaying the inevitable – and – when it does all come crashing down – it will hurt we the middle-class and poor even moreso than if they would have just let it fail in the beginning.
Liberal
Madeleine Begun Kane presents Ode To Odious Corporate Personhood posted at Mad Kane’s Political Madness.
I know many of you guys on the left didn’t read the full decision – but – it did not reverse any of the laws that prevent corporations from influencing politics directly. It only reversed the decision that prevents the 507′s from placing political ads 30 days before elections. All the other protections are still in place. No one had any problem with Soros, Moore, and MoveOn.org from placing ads and showing movies before elections – they just had a problem with conservative groups doing it.
Banquet Manager presents Restaurant Refused To Give Man a Toothpick! posted at So You Want To Be a Banquet Manager….
Good Lord – that is just plain ridiculous. Unfortunately, we’re seeing some of that kind of idiocy creeping over here in the U.S. as well. Seems common sense just does not prevail any longer when it comes to nanny state politicians.
Madeleine Begun Kane presents Ode To Weak-Kneed Democrats posted at Mad Kane’s Political Madness.
It appears as though you are wanting the remaining Dems left to commit political suicide. The message sent from MA was very clear – the majority of this country is not left leaning and we don’t agree with this administration’s progressive agenda. We want less government – not more. I hope there are Dems who get what you wish – it would mean the demise of this dangerous progessive movement we have now.
Libertarian
Super Saver presents A Personal Finance Perspective on the U.S. Budget posted at My Wealth Builder, saying, “I’m not used to working with billions and trillions of dollars. When I scaled down the U.S. budget to an individual’s level, the problems became more clear, especially why the Obama spending freeze won’t really help.”
Good visual. I would like to put it in to further perspective if you don’t mind – the REAL national debt is $70 Trillion plus. The spending freeze is just $15 Billion. The freeze represents just 0.0002 of the total debt. So, out of $10,000 I decide not to spend $2 out of that and somehow that is supposed to make things better? Idiocy if you ask me. The good thing is that more and more people are really beginning to pay attention to these things and are doing the math for themselves and are coming to the realization that our government, politicians, and so-called leaders are all idiots and aren’t looking out for this country at all.
News
Jared Rhoads presents Hopping onto the Brownwagon posted at The Lucidicus Project, saying, “Republicans and Democrats both want to ride the populist wave fueled in part by Scott Brown’s victory in Massachusetts. Can independents finally make it clear that they are for limited government?”
Absolutely right on target! That’s okay – let those idiot political elites continue to keep their heads in the sand – they won’t see it coming when We The People take our country back.
Archvillain presents The More Things Change ? posted at A Dark and Sinister Force for Good, saying, “Anything not mandatory is prohibited. Anything not prohibited is mandatory. Check your free will and thoughts at the door.”
That is just plain ludicrous. I was an avid D&D player throughout my teens and continued to play a little through college. As you pointed out – it is very creative, requires critical thinking, and it is very stimulating. In fact, when I saw that one of my sons was developing a creative and artistic streak – I got him in to D&D rather than buy him video games. Those idiots in Wisconsin (and the Moral Majority) are idiots. Thanks for continuing to keep us all informed on these issues.
Joel presents Nazis in Longmont posted at NGOmeter.
I’m in full agreement – the First Amendment does protect their speech as much as it does ours. Personally, I think we need to let them speak more and adopt more highways to get their message out there – it will help drive down their membership.
Aaron Rogier presents The Hard Reform posted at Aaron Rogier, saying, “There’s talk in the news about bringing back some of the restrictions Glass-Steagall placed on financial firms. Here’s a consideration of the effect these types of restriction may have for market stability.”
Aaron – great education piece there. I’m familiar with GLB – but – hadn’t realized that was what actually repealed Glass-Steagall. I believe your observations are absolutely correct. I think we would still be in this mess partly due to Fannie & Freddie plus the CRA – but – I don’t believe it would have been has bad had those corporations not been allowed to create the derivatives and securities and sell them as they did. Hope to see more from ya here.
Silicon Valley Blogger presents Heard of Stimulus Grants? Scams Abound posted at The Digerati Life, saying, “Are people still falling for stimulus grant scams? Apparently the answer is yes. So here are some things to watch out for.”
Thanks for the public service message here. I keep hearing about these so-called “credit bailout” programs also that says people can be “bailed out” of their credit cards. That too is another one of those scams. I’ve also seen a few ads on TV stating Obama wants to help people save their mortgages through these stimulus grants. Unfortunately, without education pieces like yours – there are going to be a lot of people are already hurting get taken to the cleaners ensuring they will lose their homes and dignity.
The Smarter Wallet presents Big Business Lowers Consumer Prices Due To Recession posted at The Smarter Wallet, saying, “The slowdown in the economy is causing big business to make adjustments.”
Any business that wants to stay in business during these times will absolutely need to reduce prices if they want to keep the consumers rolling in. They will need to tighten their belts just as the consumers have to do the same thing to keep their households in tact. I’m glad to see some out there are doing just that. However, companies like Toys R Us that are only doing it for 1 month are going to find out it is not enough.
Politics
smrtas1 presents White House Clueless Over Scott Brown Win in Massachusetts posted at Conservative Patriot HQ.
You nailed that one on the head. I believe there is a second revolution going on in this country and the White House has buried their heads in the sand. As you pointed out – they are indeed clueless – not only with the Scott Brown win – but – with the mood of the country overall.
Wenchypoo presents This Just In: These Are Supposed to Be Social Security Fixes? posted at Wisdom From Wenchypoo’s Mental Wastebasket.
Why is it that Liberals and Progressives think that the solution to fixing broken programs is to spend more and put the system in to more debt? Those solutions would serve one purpose – to bankrupt SS once and for all. Personally, I think the best solution is to just shut it down altogether.
Silence Dogood presents On the Subject of Anarchism posted at Anarchy Reigns: Original Controversy.
Welcome to the Carnival Silence. Looking forward to the remainder of the series. There is another anarchist blogger out there that I follow as well (I won’t post a link here so as not to take away your spot light here) – but – I have found that I actually agree with some of the anarchist ideology. Some of it is a little too far left for me – but – I like the libertarian, small government, aspects of it. Great start so far. I think starting off with debunking some of the myths is a good way to get it going.
Brian Jay Stanley presents The Unlegislative Branch posted at Aphorisms and Paradoxes.
Ha – good one.
Republicans
Franklin presents Pincer! posted at Most Are Occupied but Some Are Milling About, saying, “Playing politics with Democrats is so easy.”
Welcome to the Carnival, Franklin. First – nope – don’t see the picture you stated you placed in the post. As for the first part of your post – I would have to say I still disagree with the government taxing the banks that paid back their TARP funds. Could you help us out and show us where the Dems have stated that the “fee” would be tax deductible? If it is tax deductible it actually defeats the purpose of the “fee.” As for the second part of your post – I agree with all of it. The Republicans need to get back to core fiscal conservative policies and help get this country back up and running. If they ever want to have a majority again – they need to go back to their roots of what put them in control in the first place. You make great points there and could prove to be winners if the GOP ever decides to be conservative again.

Bernanke was re-upped because of what he was doing behind the scenes–credit swaps with other countries (keeping the dollar in circulation globally), cleaning up Greenspan’s mess, and engineering an economy where profits, incentive, and innovation are penalized and demonized…just like a good Socialist lackey.Besides, if he wasn’t selected when he was, we’d have Tim Geithner at the helm instead–he was next in command behind Bernanke! You’d better thank your lucky stars Geithner was picked to head the Treasury–it could be a whole lot worse out there otherwise!!Personally, I’m not in favor of either of these guys, but we could do worse.
