Alli presents 1st Amendment Needs to be Strengthened to Preserve Original Intent | The Smoking Argus/ posted at The Smoking Argus, saying, “The impetus behind our founders warning government to keep its hands off the press comes not from a love of newspapers per se, but rather the necessity of free and uncensored mass communication. Newspapers just happened to be the only form of mass communication at the time.”
Very well spoken there Alli! I love your closing there. One of the main purposes of the media (therefore the reason for having freedom of the press) is to be the watchdog over government and to report back to the people. While I agree with the intent and reasoning behind your post I think you also need to take in to consideration that the regular media (print, TV, and radio) have not really been doing their part either. If they were we probably would not see the encroachment on the Internet as we do. I also thought you were going to speak a little about radio and the fairness doctrine. Perhaps you could include that at a later date!
LSM presents The Silent Majority posted at awaken the elephants blog.
Right on LSM! But, do you think that perhaps those that are not speaking up my actually be “turning the other cheek?” I do agree that more people need to be outspoken about their Christian beliefs (or any other religious belief for that matter) otherwise we might see the atheist minority get the First Amendment re-written to their advantage – Freedom FROM religion. Great observation, btw, regarding Columbine.
Praveen presents The Financial Crisis, Madoff Scandal, Bailout, and Black Boxes posted at My Simple Trading System.
I know what you speak of! It just goes to show how screwed up our government really is. The treasury is doing the exact same thing that helped cause this mess. I knew as soon as the bailouts were passed giving the treasury full unchecked authority to do as they wish – they would be neither transparent or truthful with the people and would use the “blackbox” excuse that it’s too complicated for we the average Joe to understand. Poppycock I say!
Conservative
Dissident Dingo presents “The Communists’ Greatest Victory Has Been in Convincing People They Don’t Exist” posted at The Conservative Resistance Liberation Front, saying, “The return of “commie”"
This most definitely gets the “post of the day award!” Everyone should check this out. You are so right on target with this post. As long as there are bloggers out there like you, I, and several others I know – you just might see “commie” make a comeback. Myself along with other bloggers have been sounding the same whistles you brought up. I don’t think I have ever been politically correct (which posed a minor setback for me early on in my real life career) – but – if everyone rejects it then perhaps we could put this country back on the right track. For those not in the know – the term political correctness comes from communism doctrine. How the hell did we ever allow the commies to infiltrate our daily vocabulary? Excellent post – please do come back again!
Democrats
Phil B. presents Filling Senate Seats « Phil for Humanity posted at Phil for Humanity, saying, “I have a great idea where to find qualified people to fill the Senate seats of both Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton. The unemployment office of course!”
Bwahahaha! You are right – there just might be some qualified average Joes and Janes that could fill those seats. Lord knows that Caroline Kennedy has absolutely no experience at all!
Politics
Brian Jay Stanley presents The Vegas of Voting Booths posted at Aphorisms and Paradoxes.
I would tend to agree with you wholeheartedly here. I think this past election cycle is a prime example of just what you were talking about. People voted for “change and hope” rather than on the actual issues and with no real knowledge of the people they were voting for.
Archvillain presents On Madness posted at A Dark and Sinister Force for Good, saying, ““He has shed no blood; robbed no one; and despoiled no country; which is more than can be said of his fellows in that line.“”
Hmmm…..in that case – The BoBo now declares himself The Emperor of the United States. You will all now bend to the will of The BoBo! All kidding aside – good post Archvillain.
vjack presents Christophobia! Could Warren be Obama’s Sarah Palin? posted at Atheist Revolution.
Well, considering 83% of this country identifies as being Christian – I really don’t see this hurting Obama at all. In fact, I think if anything he’s going to lose his hard-left supporters that he pandered to during the election. You guys wanted “hope and change.” What you should have been voting for was a President that actually stood for something other than a slogan. I think you state your case well – but – in the end – this is not going to be as big a deal as the atheists are making it.
