The BoBo Carnival of Politics – December 20, 2009 Edition

Posted by: The BoBo  //  Category: Carnival, Conservative, Democrats, Liberals, Politics, blogs, government, libertarian

Hey all – so sorry for my apparent lack of participation throughout the past week.  It was very hectic both in the real work world and in the real family world – things are pretty busy as we ramp up towards Christmas.  There were plenty of evenings where I was just too tired to do any blogging.  I suspect my posts may be a bit sparse next week also.

Which also leads to this next announcement – this will be the last BoBo Carnival of Politics of 2009.  I will be in Virginia the following week and then the week after that is New Year’s weekend.  The next edition will be on January 10, 2010.  So, enjoy the last edition for this year!

Conservative

Joe Manausa, MBA presents Erwin Jackson Asks Tallahassee To Demand More posted at Tallahassee Real Estate Blog, saying, “The Tallahassee City Commission cooked up a plan to give themselves an unlawful raise by calling it something else. They called it “deferred compensation.” Yet they deferred no compensation, they continued to cash their fully-funded paychecks, and they each received an additional $22K per year!”

As a fellow Floridian – this outrages me as well, even though we are in two separate areas of the state.  I hate politicians.  Good for Mr. Jackson.  I’ll keep an eye on this issue as well.  I hope all of those commissioners go to jail.

Scott Spiegel presents Top 10 Conservatives of 2009 posted at Scott Spiegel.

A very interesting list you have compiled there.  While I agree they all belong on a list of top conservatives – I have others in mind I think I would have put up there before some you have on the list – but – then – that would be MY list . :)   A very interesting selection you have there to say the least. I think the best thing about this list – every one of those individuals listed would drive those lefties absolutely insane.

Liberal

Madeleine Begun Kane presents Dressing Down The President posted at Mad Kane’s Political Madness.

Good one.  I won’t say anything more – okay – just kidding..when have I ever left anything like that? LOL.  Actually, we both agree this bill needs to be killed – but – for completely different reasons.  You guys want MORE government intrusion in the lives of American people – and I want the government to quit trampling on the constitution.  This bill is unconstitutional in every variation – even the one in the house.  Also, thought you might like to know – in the House they only need 51% not 51 votes.

Libertarian

Rick Sincere presents Bill of Rights Day 2009 posted at Rick Sincere News and Thoughts, saying, “Report, with video, of the Jefferson Area Libertarians’ annual celebration of the anniversary of the Bill of Rights”

Rick – first – I’d like to thank you for enlightening me – I did not realize there was a national Bill of Rights Day.  I will keep December 15th noted on my calendar for years to come and will be actively seeking out these rallies in my area now.  Thanks for providing some great video’s and some great commentary regarding the Charlottesville area rally.  Lastly, Keith Olbermann is an idiot.

News

Archvillain presents Egregious Stupidity posted at A Dark and Sinister Force for Good, saying, “Four little words are being used to destroy our civilization: It’s for the children!”

As always – an excellent post.  One thing that I would like to add regarding that case in Boston – while we all recognize it was an attack on Christianity – this kid’s father took it one step further – he pulled the race card in to this – whereby adding another two words to what has gone wrong in this country.  Zero tolerance, parental abdication of responsibility – and – race card.  These, in addition to the other four words you mention – all fall under that other hideously dangerous term – Political Correctness.  This is a great post for everyone to read.

Politics

Grandpa Oddball presents Throw the Rascals out!! posted at GetOddNews.

Welcome to the Carnival Grandpa.  I can say, if we throw the baby out with the bathwater – then – so be it.  I’m with ya on this one and I’m sure there are many more Americans across this country that feel the same as we both do.  This is a great post.  I look forward to seeing more submissions, especially as you follow up on this post. Also, I read your “about” page.  I’m very impressed that you are able to do the blogging that you do.  My continued thoughts and prayers will be with you and your family as you continue to fight your illness(es). Keep up the great blogging!

Ann Margrain presents Corruption in Health: Addiction to Pills that Kill posted at Heroin and Cornflakes, saying, “Why would his supervisors intimidate scientists? After all, this is a government agency – not some drugs cartel from Mexico. Well, it helps to understand that in addition to campaign contributions to elected government officials and candidates, companies, and other organizations spend billions of dollars each year to lobby Congress and federal agencies. Some special interests retain lobbying firms, many of them located along Washington’s legendary K Street; others have lobbyists working in-house.”

Actually, if you want the FDA to act really quick – just let an actor or sports figure die from abusing and using them improperly.  While I certainly agree with the main points of your article – the FDA shut down all diet products made with Ma Huang (ephedra) shortly after Steve Bechler died.  There had only been 1 death that year related to ephedra – and – it was found that he was taking more than the proscribed limits.  More people die every year from accidental aspirin overdoses – yet – that product remains over the counter.  I harp on this particular drug/supplement – because it was highly effective and non-addictive.  You are on to something – I bet those other drug companies prompted the FDA to act quickly to ban ephedra so that they can continue to push their addictive supplements.  Great post.

Scott Social Media Allen presents Don’t Make New Laws – Enforce the Ones We Have posted at Scott “Social Media” Allen, saying, “The last thing we need is more laws, especially when existing laws cover the issue at hand.”

Absolutely!!  But, then again – we have more laws on our books throughout the country that most have probably never even realized were there.  So, why should we expect our government representatives to actually investigate to see if there are already laws on the books that would fit the need they are looking for – let’s just make up another law – it’s easier!  How could we citizens possibly demand our elected and selected government officials to actually do the job they were hired for? ;)

Super Saver presents Tax Credit for Golf Carts – Another Unintended Consequence? posted at My Wealth Builder, saying, “What will the politicians think of next? Perhaps the health care reform bill will include a exercise tax credit for buying golf equipment and playing golf.”

It absolutely floored me last week when John Stossel did segment for his inaugural debut on The Fox Business Network.  Talk about a huge waste of taxpayer dollars.  Thanks for posting this story and for submitting it here at the carnival.  This is another of those issues that I heard about, intended to blog about, then just got bogged down.  This is a must read for everyone.  You won’t hear this story any where on the MSM.

That concludes this edition. Submit your blog article to the next edition of The BoBo Carnival of Politics using our carnival submission form. Past posts and future hosts can be found on our blog carnival index page.

Back up and running

Posted by: The BoBo  //  Category: BoBo, blogs

Alrighty then – you may have noticed that I was down for a while – I recently moved to my own self-hosted blog. Many of you know that I was piggy-backing my blog as a subdomain under Menstrual Poetry. We were having technical issues there due to the size of my blog – so – I have grown up and am now all on my own.

I’d like to publicly thank Holly Ord for allowing me to run my blog on her server for the past year. Make sure you all go visit her over at

Menstrual Poetry or Women Tribune

She’s awesome.

No doubt – you will notice that my September Blogroll Appreciation Day post is gone.  That’s because we created the database backup before I created that post.  I promise to get that back up later tonight.

Over to the right there – under the EntreCard widget is a poll. Let me know what you think of the new looks here. Don’t be afraid to hurt my feelings – I’m a big clown now – I can take it.

I’m still in the process of moving things over from the old design – so – don’t be alarmed if you see things moving around or new things popping up when the pages refresh.

Coming Soon! A Guest Post!

Posted by: The BoBo  //  Category: Guest Bloggers, Politics, blogs

Wow, I think it’s been close to a year since I last had a guest post on here.  I haven’t been actively looking – but – I may consider starting that up again.  Coming very soon – a guest post from My Journey To Millions.  He has submitted semi-political related articles to my Carnival in the past.  He is a finance lawyer up in NY and his posts are primarily finance related.  However, he has a great politics related article that he’s just burning to get off his chest. This takes a different turn for him, so where is the best place to just air out your frustrations and vent without inhibition?  Right here of course!  I won’t tell you what it’s about – I’ll just let you come back and see for yourselves.  Stay tuned folks.

The BoBo Carnival of Politics – May 3, 2009 Edition

Posted by: The BoBo  //  Category: BoBo, Carnival, Congress, Conservative, Democrats, Liberals, Obama, Politics, President, Republicans, blogs, government

Welcome to the May 3, 2009 edition of The BoBo Carnival of Politics. Enjoy!

Conservative

Michael Bass presents America Should Not Torture Those Whom She Arrests posted at Barry Broom.com, saying, “What you gonna do when they come for YOU?”

Howdy Michael – thanks for your submission.  All I can say is – I don’t know where you’ve been getting your information regarding your points in this post – but – wow are you so misinformed.  Not one of those “enhanced interrogation techniques” can legally be classified as torture.  I’ve been through them all as part of my military training.  Second – the Patriot Act does not allow the “spying” on American citizens without a warrant.  It is used to obtain information for those who are known to have ties to terrorists.  Can you name one single instance where ANY American has been denied their privacy rights as a result of this Act? (BTW – wikipedia is not a reliable resource – the one you used stated there are not cited resources in it) Besides – it has a sunset clause and has to be renewed by Congress.  Regarding the gun ownership part of your discussion – it is called The Blair Holt act.  It has not chance of passing since Bobby Rush does not have a single sponsor.  It will never pass and the SCOTUS would shoot it down anyway as being unconstitutional. But – there is one thing here that we both agree on – I don’t trust our government either.

John Kaduk presents The Gadsden Flag posted at The Right Wing.

John – thanks for this great look at the history behind The Gadsden Flag.  Apparently, I just knew a little of the history.  Thanks for the education! A must read for everyone.

Selkirk presents Top 6 Head Scratchers of the First 100 Days posted at Political Castaway Blog: Broadcasting Conservatism to Rescue America, saying, “Sorry that I haven’t sent much recently.”

No prob Selkirk!  These were all great examples of things that make you go..hmmm!

Silicon Valley Blogger presents How Your Occupation, Education, Income and Net Worth Determine Your Social Class posted at The Digerati Life, saying, “Thanks! This is one of my favorite carnivals! :)

Thanks – I’m glad you like it.  I enjoy all of your submissions as well – and I’m sure many of my readers to also.  Being a public health scholar right now – social and economic class are huge indicators and are closely related to health disparity.  Your visuals are excellent and definitely helps to get the point across.

The Smarter Wallet presents Got An Upside Down Mortgage? Would You Foreclose and Walk Away From Your Mortgage? posted at The Smarter Wallet, saying, “Thanks!”

Great post on upside-down mortgage.  To answer the main question – in today’s economy – I would.  I would rather just walk away and put my family in a rented apartment that would be more affordable..but..that’s just me.

Liberal

Madeleine Begun Kane presents They Only Have Themselves To Blame posted at Mad Kane’s Political Madness.

Nice little ditty there.  However, there hasn’t been an opportunity for bipartisanship since 2006 when Reid and Pelosi took over.  They have shut Republicans out every step of the way.  Personally, I think this is a great stance for the Republicans.  Let the Dems hang themselves.  The Dems only want Republicans to vote with them so they can say it wasn’t entirely their fault they drove this country to complete disastrous failure.

Miscellaneous

nickel presents Making Work Pay: Tax Credit Results in Reduced Federal Income Tax Withholding posted at fivecentnickel.com.

Yeah..but considering it is taxable income – you’re really not getting a tax credit at all.  Just another bogus scam by this administration.

Erika Collin presents 10 Incredible Safety Features on Obama’s Limo posted at e-Justice Blog.

Thanks Erika for this look in to the Presidential Limo.  However, what you mentioned has pretty much been standard features since Reagan took office.  Still – it’s always great to see it again.

Praveen presents Illinois Governor Tries To Eliminate Flat Income Tax posted at My Simple Trading System.

Praveen – let’s hope enough people in your state fight back since it’s against your state constitution.  I’m glad I live in a state without an income tax!

News

U.S. Common Sense presents Reverse Discrimination and the Supreme Court posted at U.S. Common Sense, saying, “The Supreme Court hears the case about Connecticut firefighters that had their promotion exams tossed out since no blacks passed (19 whites and 1 hispanic did).”

Let’s hope the SCOTUS sides with justice and reason on this.  Given the fact we have a black man as President – isn’t it about time we got rid of these stupid race quotas anyway?  Great post.

David Gross presents What would Thoreau have said about the torture policy? posted at The Picket Line, saying, “I went out back on an unusually hot afternoon yesterday to do some weeding in the garden and try to keep my mind from dwelling on waterboarding and sleep deprivation. It’s Spring and everything is coming up, and the garlic are so vigorous they look almost like cornstalks, and on two occasions I lifted border-bricks and found clutches of wriggling baby salamanders, and Jay Bybee sits on the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals.”

A very interesting comparison.

NAOMI presents THUMBS DOWN FOR GORDON BROWN DOLL posted at Diary From England.

Bwahahaha!  That’s pretty funny, Naomi.

Ron McKie presents It’s time to celebrate bitches posted at Phuck Politics.

Ron – Welcome back!  I was wondering where you’ve been.  Looks like you’ve brought it back with a pretty powerful submission!  Given that I am a huge supporter of checks and balances in our government – I don’t see this as a Republican versus Democrat issue – I see this as being a HUGE problem for our country if there is a Supermajority with 2 of 3 branches of our government being controlled by one party.  This is not what our founding fathers intended.

Politics

U.S. Common Sense presents Who should be prosecuted for torture? posted at U.S. Common Sense, saying, “Part 1 of 2. Looking into the debate over the torture issue, and asking who should be prosecuted.”

U.S. Common Sense presents Who should be the prosecutor? posted at U.S. Common Sense, saying, “Part 2 of 2. After addressing who should be prosecuted, we now have to ask who should do the prosecution.”

These are both good posts.  I think this is just a witch hunt and revenge for Clinton being impeached.  First, America doesn’t torture.  Second, the Senate and Pelosi were briefed and new exactly what was going on.  Third – not one of those “enhanced interrogation techniques” can be legally classified as torture.  Lastly, this is very dangerous road this administration is embarking on.  It could damage the administration of all future Presidents if it is determined you can throw advisors of a previous administration in jail for their advise.  It’s ridiculous.

Wenchypoo presents Using Our Own Money Against Us Part 4 (a new one for me): Rearranging Bank Deck Chairs posted at Wisdom From Wenchypoo’s Mental Wastebasket.

I think your conclusion is correct.  However, some of those big banks are already fighting back against those so-called “stress tests.”  Let’s hope it doesn’t get too far before there is a straight up rebellion in this country.

Jon T. presents Swine Flu and Secure Borders posted at The Mustang Ride.

I’m with ya on this one Jon.  We should have shut down the border years ago.  As the Swine Flu continues to spread throughout Mexico – you can bet there is going to be an even larger influx of illegals if we don’t do something now to shut it down.

History Cellar presents The History Cellar: Thomas Jefferson comments on Andrew Jackson posted at The History Cellar, saying, “Might not fit, but interesting anyway.”

Actually – ANYTHING from the founding fathers fits here!  Thanks for this submission.

That concludes this edition. Submit your blog article to the next edition of The BoBo Carnival of Politics using our carnival submission form. Past posts and future hosts can be found on our blog carnival index page.

The BoBo Carnival of Politics – April 5, 2009 Edition

Posted by: The BoBo  //  Category: BoBo, Carnival, China, Civil Rights, Congress, Conservative, Constitution, Democrats, Education, Fascism, Liberals, Obama, Politics, President, blogs, government

Hello everyone and welcome to yet another great edition of the Carnival. Just wanted to let everyone know that with next weekend being Easter – the next edition will actually be posted on Saturday, April 9th with the last submission for the week being on Good Friday at 11:00pm EST. I’ll be taking off Easter Sunday to celebrate with the family. With that being said – enjoy!

Conservative

Terri Choate presents On Throwing Money at the Problem posted at Plum Duff…not your ordinary gruel!.

A very excellent and detailed look at the problem with our education system and the government “reforms.”  Our education system happens to be one of my soapbox items.  Whenever the government and politicians stick their nose in anything it just makes it worse.  As you pointed out, both Aristotle and the guy in the Detroit school district were right – more money won’t make a difference if the system is broke.

Selkirk presents What It Means To Be A Liberal posted at Political Castaway Blog: Broadcasting Conservatism to Rescue America.

Another good post Selkirk.  I did a similar list last year.  The one’s that you have listed are similar to a couple that I mentioned as well.  Those liberals make no sense at all do they?

David Lamb presents Playing with Fire: President Obama, Rick Wagoner, and the new responsibilities posted at Killer Buffalo, saying, “After a November meeting with the Senate Banking Committee forced General Motors (GM) chief-executive Rick Wagoner to accept a no bonus $1 per year salary starting in 2009, President Obama and his auto industry task-force have decided that Mr Wagoner’s services aren’t worth a greenback.”

David – welcome back from wherever you were!  Can we say “fascism?”  I’m just wondering when Obama is going to demand that Gettelfinger resign as well – after all – the union is just as much at fault.

lsm presents DUI Gone Mad. posted at awaken the elephants blog.

This is freakin’ ludicrous – to use your term as well – more government gone amok.  While I’m all for taking drunk drivers off the road – this law is just preposterous.  At least this guy was responsible enough NOT to drive.

The Gnome Lord presents My Political Positions In Plain English posted at The Gnome Lord . com.

Simply Awesome!  I share many of these same positions – I just haven’t been able to put them as poignantly as you have.

Selkirk presents A Letter from Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao Requesting President Obama’s Resignation posted at Political Castaway Blog: Broadcasting Conservatism to Rescue America, saying, “Reworking the speech the President gave regarding the auto industry.”

That’s a pretty scary letter – but – if China ever decides to do what our country has done to private industry – that is exactly the letter that will be written and received in D.C.

Liberal

Angus Stocking presents Stop It, You’re Torturing Me posted at Belief Systems & Other BS, saying, “A personal reason for disliking torture.”

Hey Angus – I guess you’re going to have to define what you think torture is for me.  This country of ours does not torture.  I’ve been through worse during airborne survival training school than any detainee at Gitmo has ever been through.  Waterboarding is not torture.  It is very uncomfortable – but – I wouldn’t consider it torture.  I know several people who have been through it during training – and – they came out of it okay.  I agree with all those other methods you mentioned seeing on TV and in movies, etc – but – those torture techniques were always ones that have been used on American soldiers by other nations.

Madeleine Begun Kane presents Republican Road To Remedial Math posted at Mad Kane’s Political Madness.

Well – no numbers is better than the numbers the Dem’s have proposed.  I’d rather a budget that contains ZERO spending and cuts all across the board than that disaster the Dems want to throw at the American public.

Miscellaneous

Banquet Manager presents Congress ‘Hypocrisy’ on Company Trips Irks U.S. Hotel Industry posted at So You Want To Be a Banquet Manager….

Is that a picture of Champion’s Gate?  It looks real familiar.  This is a great post – it points out the hypocrisy of our government leaders.  Freakin’ idiots.  It’s “do as I say, not as I do” with those idiots.  I think they are determined to really destroy every sector of this economy.

C. E. Dowalt presents Who stole the money: Congress posted at Money Confidential.

It would be nice if the MSM would actually start doing their jobs and reporting the truth, wouldn’t it?  Why does it seem that nobody is willing to pin the blame where it belongs – on the politicians.  They screwed up this economy – not private organizations, not me, not you, not the banks.  It was the politicians with their idiotic manipulation of the free market system with their assinine regulations that fucked everything up.

News

nickel presents The Worst 401(k) Plans posted at fivecentnickel.com.

Given this is tied directly in to the economy and the mess our government has gotten us in – I can see how this can fit here in this carnival.  All I can say is I’m glad my company isn’t on this list.  Actually, I saw this mess coming.  I moved all of my assets in my 401k to the fixed account at a 3.5% rate in November 2007.  While everyone else lost, I’ve been earning a nominal amount – but – earning.

Credit Card Addict presents Outlawing Retroactive Interest Rate Changes posted at CreditAddict.

Let’s hope the legislation going through Congress will also outlaw this practice.  At least Maryland got one thing right!

Steve Patterson presents Renter Foreclosure Alerts. What? posted at ISMagazine.com, saying, “Some landlords creating more regulation for all.”

Considering that the mortgage failures are at the forefront for the failing economy – I guess I’ll let this one by.  This is a good public service message.

Len Penzo presents Stop the Bailouts and Let the Bankruptcy Process Do Its Job posted at Len Penzo . Com, saying, “Rick Wagoner goes to Washington DC with hat in hand and ends up getting punked by Barack Obama. There’s a lesson there for every private company that’s on the ropes and fearing the stigma of a potential bankruptcy filing.”

Bankruptcy should have been the first option for any private organization.  There never should have been a bailout.  Despite the fact that GM took the bailout – that still did not give Obama the authority or the right to tell Wagoner to step down.  Wagoner should have just gave him the finger and told him to fuck off.  If the board wants Wagoner out – it’s the board’s decision – not Teh One’s.

Greg Laden presents Greg Laden’s Blog : From Graduate School to Prison: What is the rational argument for ELF or ALF? posted at Greg Laden’s Blog.

Greg – excellent post.  I have nothing more that I can even think to add to this post.  Thanks for sharing your personal experience with us all.

Politics

brislo2003 presents Forgive Student Loans for Economic Stimulus, Bank Stability, & Direct Help posted at Topics Of Conversation, saying, “$550 billion would eliminate all student debt increase consumer spending dramatically.”

From a personal standpoint – I can stand behind this.  I have a huge student loan that is killing me.  However, I took that loan on and agreed to the terms and agreement.  While I get where you are coming from – there is no way I can possibly shirk my responsibility and saddle the rest of the country with my debt.

brislo2003 presents Kill the Bonus Tax | Topics Of Conversation posted at Topics Of Conversation, saying, “Killing the bonus tax should not be a political decision but a decision based on reason.”

I agree with you on this one 100%.  There is no way in hell that government should ever be able to dictate to private business what their salaries and bonuses are.  I don’t care if that company did get a bailout on taxpayer dollar.  While I’m pissed that government bailed them out and the fact those private businesses took the bailouts – the fact of the matter is they are private organizations.  Once government gets in the mix and starts dictating how private businesses are run – we’re down the path to fascism and following in Hitler’s and Mussolini’s lead.

NotYourDaddy presents Taxpayer Tea Parties All Across the Nation posted at Government is not your Daddy., saying, “If the founding fathers could have even imagined the plethora of laws, regulations, ordinances, taxes, licenses, permits, fees, etc. that we are subject to today, and which are constantly increasing, they would roll over in their graves.”

I agree – they probably are rolling over though. You are spot on with the questions there.  I posted up a table earlier this week for people to find tea parties in their states – I got that from taxdayteaparty.com.  I think everyone needs to find a party and join it.  I will be.

Eric Michael Johnson presents Bodyguard of Lies posted at The Primate Diaries.

While I agree that we should not allow special interest groups to dictate our policies in government – you forgot to mention that former Ambassador Charles Freeman was the director for a Saudi funded Middle East advocacy group and has a conflict of interest.  That is the main reason he was turned down.  Considering he has been getting paid several hundreds of thousands of dollars over the last few years to lobby on behalf of Middle East interests – I don’t see how he could be the right choice for National Intelligence in this country.  I wouldn’t want him to have access to our national secrets either knowing they could possibly be givne to our enemies. I don’t trust the man.

Jared Rhoads presents It’s not about “effectiveness” posted at The Lucidicus Project, saying, “Jared M. Rhoads writes that despite the temptation to support “responsible stewardship of public funds,” government should not be funding research to determine which medical treatments we will all receive.”

I agree 100%.  Being that I’m in the healthcare profession and have been for the last 18 years – it would be absolutely disastrous for government to stick their fingers in to private healthcare.  Government should never be allowed to dictate medical treatment – and – it is a waste for them to even conduct research in this area.  The research has already been done – look at any nationalized healthcare system.  It’s a disaster.

That concludes this edition. Submit your blog article to the next edition of The BoBo Carnival of Politics using our carnival submission form. Past posts and future hosts can be found on our blog carnival index page.
