So, we keep hearing that if we don’t raise the debt ceiling above $14.3 Trillion – then the country defaults on all of our loans and we won’t be able to pay for any of the spending already authorized by Congress…and we have Geithner out there now saying that if we default – then the GOP is to blame.
What kind of bullshit is that?
1 – While the GOP would shoulder some of the blame – almost all of the blame lies on the shoulders of the Democrats. They held the majority since 2007 and had a supermajority for 2 years. In the last 2 years – Obama has increased our debts and deficit more than any previous president. In just those two years – his spending totals MORE than all presidents in history.
The GOP is only partly to blame because they have followed right along with the tax and spend Democrats since the early 1900′s. No Republican has ever done anything significant to reduce our spending or our debts.
2 – If Congress doesn’t raise the debt ceiling – then the Fed will have to pump in more dollars – this would actually give the U.S. an extra 2 months before we actually do default on any loans.
With these things in mind – what the fuck, man? So, if the debt ceiling isn’t raised that means that the U.S. cannot borrow any more money from other countries in order to pay for spending authorized by Congress. That doesn’t mean we default. That is a red herring. We only default if we don’t actually pay our debts.
As a kid, my father always said – if you’re stupid enough to get yourself in debt – you pay your debts before you pay yourself. Once you pay your debts then you can pay yourself.
This is really simple financial planning.
A.) How much income do you have coming in?
B.) What needs do you have? (Food, shelter, clothing, heat, water, utilities, etc.)
C.) How much do you need to save for emergencies? (Reserves)
D.) Is there anything left over?
If you have any left over then you can use it as discretionary income to have fun with and buy those “wants” or use credit – and budget the remaining left over towards paying on that credit.
Simple – your budget is balanced – Income & Liabilities = 0
So, here is what our politicians are faced with – we have out of this fucking world spending programs and a shitload of stuff we don’t need to be spending on (foreign aide, cradle-to-grave entitlements, redundant government agencies, and agencies that usurp states’ rights). I have a very simple solution to this.
Don’t raise the debt ceiling – in other words – don’t borrow another damned penny from anybody
Make the debt payment
Find areas in the current spending and just cut that department/spending/entitlement – and use that to pay the debt. Whatever is left over – then you pay for those services.
Put in a balanced budget amendment that forces the government to balance to “0″ every year – eliminate the debt altogether
Put a budget in place that SIGNIFICANTLY reduces spending and the size of government.
Put a cap on government spending – equal to the amount of incoming tax revenue each year
So – in other words – how much does the government have coming in from taxes, then budget to the revenue only. No debt, no borrowing, no more deficit spending. In fact – the balanced budget amendment needs to place a ban on deficit spending. Those of us in the real world have to do it – we need to make these idiot politicians accountable and hold their feet to the fire.
Finally – get rid of all the damned liberals. They have destroyed this country – that includes RINOs. It is time we get back to the values that made this country great – values that says every person in this country has the ability to succeed on their own merits. If a person succeeds – they should not be punished by the government for their success, nor should they be vilified for being successful. Government needs to be reigned in and held to the constitutional limits placed on them. This government was created with a notion they would stay out of the way of business and individual liberties – and create rules and regulations that would allow individuals to be creative and pursue their own path to happiness.
I am not anti-government. I am only asking for the government that our founders gave us – a representative republic with a very limited federal government.
For whatever reason, the Democrats believe that a government shutdown would hurt the Republicans. They are banking on it to score political points. Apparently, they must think this is 1995 when the majority of Americans were asleep and really didn’t pay attention to politics or Washington D.C. at all. Boy are they wrong.
First – let’s get this out of the way – a government shutdown doesn’t hurt anything that is important – in fact – according to The Heritage Fact Sheet
The term “shutdown” substantially overstates the matter. Even if Congress and the President fail to reach agreement, the most essential services continue, such as: (1) providing for national security, (2) conducting foreign affairs, (3) providing for the continuity of mandatory benefit payments, and (4) protecting life and property. These services include military, law enforcement, VA care, and others. Social Security checks are still mailed.
So, all that bullshit fearmongering coming from the Democrats about the military not getting paid, and other such things about border control and national security, and seniors being affected are just that…bullshit.
Next – they pin their hats on the Planned Parenthood defunding saying that the are waging war against women and would deny them essential services such as cancer screening, mammograms, and the like. Here are the facts from their 2010 IRS Form 990 regarding Planned Parenthood funding:
Total Annual Revenues: $85,263,306 (This does not include government funding)
Total Salaries and Benefits: $24,991,097 (25% of total revenues)
Total Fund Raising Expenses: $13,085,719 (15% of total revenues, also included as part of Grants & Services)
Grants & Services Expenses: $59,222,768 (70% of total revenues)
According to their 2008-2009 Annual Report:
Total Assets and Capital: $1.197 Billion
Total Government Funding: $349.8 Million (33%)
Given that in their own reports they have given out almost $100 Million in grants and services to the U.N. for International services – do you really think that defunding PPH would effectively cut off women from needed services?
Only 66% of their total go to actual medical services – that includes those screenings. Wow, wait a minute… 33% from the government – and 66% for medical services. 99% of total revenues. That means the 33% is being used for:
Fundraising – 5%
Management & General Support – 11% (See Salaries)
Non-Medical Domestic Services – 17%
That last 1% goes to International Services – hmm…1% of 1.197 Billion is $100 Million.
I say – defund them, and let them make the necessary cuts to their salaries, stop sending money overseas when the services are needed here, and cut those non-medical services to ensure the medical services remain funded. They need to work within their budget instead of relying on the taxpayers to pay their non-medical related services. If PPH is truly committed to providing services to women – they won’t choose to cut them off.
This is a red herring by the Democrats.
Let’s see what it is the Democrats are proposing……………
Oh…that’s right – ZIP. ZILCH. NADA. They have nothing to offer. They have no budget. No proposals. Nothing except fearmongering and rhetoric.
45% of Americans side with the GOP with their deep budget cut proposals. BUT, 58% of the general public want a compromise. This poll also shows that the GOP are not getting the message out as 41% think the Democrats are doing a better job with this budget process. Which makes absolutely no sense at all given the only thing the Democrats are doing is blocking the GOP every step of the way.
So, bottom line is – if the Democrats decide to block the GOP budget and CR proposal and we’re forced to shutdown government, the Democrats are going to lose out come the next election.
UPDATE – There appears to be a deal – but – we don’t have the details yet. Let’s wait and see.

For the most part, these voters are not choosing to vote Republican in 2010 because they like the Republican candidates or because they suddenly have embraced GOP values. They are voting Republican to divide the government in the hope of reining in the Democratic agenda and restoring some semblance of fiscal rationality. The only surprise is that it has taken this long for the left to understand that their core problem was not ennui in the base. Their core problem is they have lost the center.”

This one isn’t really related to politics – but – being that I am working on my Ph.D. in Public Health and my dissertation is on the H1N1 Vaccine – I found this to be very interesting and I hope my readers will too. Vaccines, for the most part, work against preventable diseases. The problem is that for many preventable diseases that were at one time eradicated – many vaccines have not been updated to keep up with the mutations – in addition to the fact that we use antibiotics any everything today – many diseases have become resistant to most antivirals.
