Exclusive: U.S. Scales-Back Military Exercise with Israel, Affecting Potential Iran Strike
Seven months ago, Israel and the United States postponed a massive joint military exercise that was originally set to go forward just as concerns were brimming that Israel would launch a strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities. The exercise was rescheduled for late October, and appears likely to go forward on the cusp of the U.S. presidential election. But it won’t be nearly the same exercise. Well-placed sources in both countries have told TIME that Washington has greatly reduced the scale of U.S. participation, slashing by more than two-thirds the number of American troops going to Israel and reducing both the number and potency of missile interception systems at the core of the joint exercise.
“Basically what the Americans are saying is, ‘We don’t trust you,’” a senior Israeli military official tells TIME.
The reductions are striking. Instead of the approximately 5,000 U.S. troops originally trumpeted for Austere Challenge 12, as the annual exercise is called, the Pentagon will send only 1,500 service members, and perhaps as few as 1,200. Patriot anti-missile systems will arrive in Israel as planned, but the crews to operate them will not. Instead of two Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense warships being dispatched to Israeli waters, the new plan is to send one, though even the remaining vessel is listed as a “maybe,” according to officials in both militaries.
I decided I would sit through this half-hour speech tonight to see just what P-BO’s strategy for Afghanistan was other than just sending the extra 30,000 troops that we already knew about for months now. He literally spent only 6 minutes out of 30 discussing this so-called “strategy.”
How do I know this? Well, my three-year-old daughter told me she need to go potty – that was at 8:06pm. I figured – okay – he’s still in the monologue section of his speech right now – I have time. I might miss a little, but I would be back in time to hear the meat of it. I got back to the T.V. at 8:12 pm and he was talking about how he had just outlined his strategy then proceeded to blather on with more apologies and blaming Bush and the previous administration for everything.
I actually had to go out and find the speech here to read what the strategy actually is. So..to sum it up – he’s sending 30,000 troops and setting a deadline for withdrawal of those troops and calling on our allies to increase their presence in Afghanistan as well. What the hell kind of strategy is that? Why the hell did he need to pre-empt A Charlie Brown Christmas to give a 6 minute speech on this bullshit strategy? This is a strategy for failure.
Oh – I know why he’s using this strategy – check out his security council:
Do you notice something? Count how many people are on that security council – I count 10 – not including P-BO. Something is very very wrong with this picture. Of 10 people developing a MILITARY strategy on Afghanistan – there is actually only ONE member of the military there – a marine seated at the bottom right of the picture here.
If any president wants to develop a WAR strategy – that president’s security council should consist of the generals on the ground, all of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the Secretary of Defense, the CIA Director, the NSA Director, and just maybe the Secretary of State. In other words – everyone who is giving you MILITARY advice actually HAS some military and espionage experience. What we have in this room is a boat load of freakin’ politicians.
I hope for the sake of our soldiers and for this country that this plan works. However, I won’t hold my breath. This is nothing more than a political strategy – it does nothing to guarantee victory in Afghanistan. I’ll say it again – if P-BO really wanted to win this war – he would send in a couple hundreds of thousands of troops, every bit of heavy artillery we can muster up, and the full force and might of our air force fighters and bombers and just start leveling EVERY known area where the Taliban and Al-Qaeda hole themselves up. This will send a VERY clear message to terrorists around the world – we aren’t taking this shit any more. When we go in to war – we go in to win it.
This is nothing more than more bullshit pussy footing diplomacy that is going to get our soldiers killed. He obviously is not serious about winning this war and bringing our troops home successfully. As such – let’s just bring them home now and save some family out there the grief of receiving news their son, daughter, mother, father, brother, sister has been killed.
Guess what P-BO – you own it now. Every life lost now is on your hands. You boldly announced to our enemy the exact date when we will be leaving. Guess what – they planned and waited years to attack us on 9-11. You don’t think they will let things cool off and just sit it out now? You’re are a freakin’ moron. Our enemies think years, and sometimes decades, ahead when the time is right for them. This is no different. They will develop their own counter-strategy now based on your deadline. They will trick you and your idiotic security council in to believing you succeeded in curbing the violence there to ensure we leave based on your deadline. Guess what happens after that? You’re an idiot.

Hi all – sorry for the delay once again. As it turns out – this was Stars Wars Weekend at Disney’s Hollywood Studios (Formerly MGM). As the geek that I am, I couldn’t resist taking my family over there this weekend. Given that I finally finished my semester and got all the exams out of the way as well as the papers, I just couldn’t find myself bringing the ‘puter along this weekend.
Yes, I left the date as yesterday – don’t want to throw the carnival off. Anyway – before we get in to this past week’s submissions, today is Memorial Day. Today is a day of remembrance and of thanks. Today we should all take a little time out to remember what makes this country great and the sacrifices made of all the soldiers before us that gave their lives for FREEDOM and DEMOCRACY in defense of the American way. We are the greatest country in the world despite what the Obamessiah and the O-bots are trying to do to us. We will overcome the attempts by our socialist leaders to bring us down. One thing to remember today is that when Americans (we the regular citizens of this country) have our backs up against the wall – we fight back. We haven’t forgotten what we believe in and we will do what we need to keep our liberties and to ensure that our children and grandchildren can have the save liberties and freedoms that we enjoyed.
Let us not forget the unnecessary death of thousands of lives on 9/11. Let them not die in vain. It seems that many in this country have returned to a 9/10 mentality. Keep their memories alive on this day as well. Let us remember our history and all that has made this country great and let us not forget it. For, if we forget it, the Obama sheeple will have won.
Finally, if you see a servicemember, not only today, but on any given day, please be sure to tell them thanks. They are today’s defenders of freedom. The need to hear they have the hearts and thanks of regular citizens. They never hear the truth in the media – which often times is their only link to the outside world – especially for those on deployment.

Yours is a factually based response to his emotionally based support of the CAFE standards. It seems to me he supports them to help reduce carbon emissions and get people of out their cars – or – maybe – I just totally misread him.

I would say that you accomplished that with this post. I think your pointers are good info for the uninformed and vulnerable. However, I still have no sympathy for boneheads who got in to homes they knew they could not afford. They should lose them. For those who are thinking about buying homes – this post is helpful. Also, I would hope anyone buying a home now would absolutely have to go through the entire vetting process – verification of employment, verification of income, verification of identity, and a minimum 20% down payment. I’m sure if this process was still in place, that family you mentioned would not have had $100,000 to put down and never would have found themselves in that predicament.

You should also look at the economy during the 1918 pandemic. You’ll see that this does indeed affect our economy. This epidemic is not anywhere near done. Being a public health scholar at this time, I can tell you that with a mortality rate of 1,000 people – this means there are at least 100,000 that have been infected. This will be a full-blown pandemic within the next 6 months. Otherwise – I think you are spot on with your assessment.

But, given the fact you guys on the left actually believes it is – then surely, Pelosi should also be your enemy now as she knew every step of the way. She is a liar and needs to step down.

When I first heard about this proposal – I wasn’t sure how I felt about it. However, the more I learned about it – the more I began to hate it. Those guys on the left will say we on the right only want to protect this big corporations. What they don’t understand is that this new bill undermines our constitutionally protected rights to enter in to contracts. Again, as you so rightly pointed out, this is the Obamessiah coming to the rescue of those idiots that don’t want to take responsibility for their own actions. Anybody who gets a credit card without reading the contract is an idiot and doesn’t deserve a credit card.
This law needs to be repealed. It is a direct assault on the constitution and once again keeps people from learning how to be responsible with their money. Those fees and increased interest rates were punishment. Where I grew up – if you broke the rules – you got punished. You deserved to be punished and you took the punishment knowing exactly why.
The best way to avoid punishment is to not break the rules. The best way to avoid this problem altogether is not to get a credit card and not to go in to debt. I now live by a cash only rule. If I don’t have enough money in the bank to buy it and if I can’t pay for it in cash – I can’t afford it.

We will not allow the government to dictate our choices – not even which cars we want to drive. What you will see happening around this country is that more and more people will be holding on to their cars longer to avoid purchasing these idiotic killer machines that the government wants us to drive. You will see a huge used car market opening up. You will see mechanics becoming more popular and more widely utilized to keep our cars running longer so that we can keep our larger more safe cars. We will see Americans as a whole rise up against the government and tell them Hell No! We’ll vote out idiots like Waxman, Obama, Reid, Pelosi, Feinstein, Boxer, McCain, and any other idiot politician that goes along with these socialist plans. We regular every day citizens are a helluva lot smarter than what those idiotic elitist politicians give us credit for. As I stated in a previous discussion – we are Americans and when our backs are put up against a wall – we come out fighting. Welcome to the Carnival Eric. I read this post and I read your about page – still can’t figure out where you stand politically. I guess that’s a good thing. The only one’s who are saying that Rush is the leader of the Republican party are those in the lefty media. For regular Americans out here like myself Rush is just another talking head. Sure, he makes some great points as far as conservatism goes – but – he’s an entertainer.
Here’s the deal – We actually know how to use our brains. We can actually listen to people like Rush, Hannity, Beck, and O’Reilly and make up our own minds. We agree with a lot of what they say and we can also disagree with those things they say that are way over the top. Unfortunately, those on the left that listen to Olbermann, John Stewart, Maddow, and Maher actually believe those idiots and absolutely everything they say. The difference between those of us on the right and those on the left is that we actually use our brains and we can discern the difference between over-the-top entertaining, rhetoric, and truth. Rush is an entertainer and a lot of what he says is just to drive those guys on the left out of their minds.

Fuck the troops!
Okay – other than 9/11 deniers I really really hate these unpatriotic passivist little twits. The one’s in that group that I detest even more are those bastards that dare to lambast our military members. As a third generation servicemember (now ex-servicemember) and having a step-son currently serving in the Army – these assholes really rub me wrong. So – it is for his post – and I’m sure it will boil the blood of some of my readers – this dickhead gets this week’s BoBo of The Week Award. Even though he wrote this piece in May of this year – the fact I just found it still makes it a candidate for the weekly award.
I’m going to skip past his intro into his rant against the troops – it just contains bullshit about him being a long-haired hippy freak in 1990 when he was protesting the first Gulf war. Funny – I thought the hippies was the 70′s generation? But – that just proves my point – he’s an idiot. He goes in to a diatribe about the use of that oxymoron (and moronic) use of “Oppose the war: Support the Troops” and why they chose then (and continue now) to use it. Sorry, dude – that slogan does not fool any pro-military pro-troop individual or our troops. So – from there – let’s get in to this thing:
It always bothered me, though, this “support the troops” idea. Sure, it was a smart strategic play, but in stark conflict to the rest of what we thought we were doing. We were here to bring the truth to an ignorant, deluded or sleeping public, and the whole truth, nothing but. That truth must have necessarily included the realization that these amorphous “troops” we were enjoined to support were actually individual, thinking, morally responsible men and women. It must have included the knowledge that each and every “troop” currently engaged in mass murder in our names had volunteered. And we knew, as they should have, that the murderous, destructive, obscene organization they volunteered to serve, hadn’t conducted a legitimate “defense of America” since at least WWII, and maybe as far back as the War of 1812, depending on whose Pearl Harbor narrative you believe.
This just proves his ignorance and disdain for both our country and our military as well as the fact that he remains blind to the ills of this world. He blames this country for what is wrong with this world. He doesn’t see that terrorism and islamofascim are the true evil ideologies that have been at play for thousands of years. Even Thomas Jefferson had to deal with those evil bastards who wanted, even then, to destroy our country. Not only have we been in defense of America for the last 200+ years, we have also been in defense of democracy around the world fighting against these assholes who want nothing else but to kill you for not being muslim.
His assertion that WWII was the last time we were defending America proves he didn’t and still doesn’t understand communism and the proliferation thereof of that ideology. We were in Korea and Viet Nam to help defend democracy in those countries that were invaded by their northern communist neighbors. America is an ally to ALL Democracies you idiot. To defend the democracies of other nations is to defend the democracy of the United States. If you allow communism, socialism, and islamofascim to take hold in democratic countries – it is harmful and is a threat to the United States.
They weren’t conscripted, they weren’t shanghaied, they weren’t tricked into signing up and donning the uniform and picking up the gun. They sought out the role, they agreed to follow orders, they signed the papers, and nowhere along the way did they somehow become transformed from individual human beings, morally responsible for their individual acts of violence and destruction into those collectively romanticized “troops”. Some small number said, “I didn’t sign up for this,” and did the only moral thing possible, which was to desert. The rest marched freely onto the planes and ships and deployed, the willing agents of empire. Certainly in many, the thought was there afterward: “We didn’t sign up for that,” but still they went, perhaps finding their own moral cover in the notion they’d been tricked. Likely, most found no moral problem with going at all.
Now – he’s just starting to warm up now. This type of downward look over his nose at the troops and those who proudly serve is just the springboard for what is to come. He somehow things those of us who serve our country proudly were “tricked” in to doing so. He’s another one of those idiots who refer to this great republic an “empire.” You are one twisted piece of shit moron! Not one individual was “tricked” in to serving this country. They took the oath that specifically states they would protect our country and our constitution against all enemies foreign and domestic. They knew during basic training when they were being taught hand-to-hand combat with bayonets they would have to fight and kill someone someday to defend this country. They knew when they were learning how to shoot their M-16′s accurately into silhouette targets that someday they would have to fire a live round in to an enemy against our democracy. They knew as they were conducting house-to-house infiltration tactics during basic training they would some day be asked to do the same thing in a foreign land. Those people who you say decided one day to change their mind and say to themselves “I didn’t sign up for this” were cowards. They knew full well what they signed up for. These are people I wouldn’t want sitting in the trenches with me any way because they can’t be trusted.
Since you have never experienced taking the oath, basic training, military weapons training, and self-defense as a part of military COMBAT training – you have no freakin’ idea what they had in their hearts as they turned coward. Plain and simple – they are cowards – not individuals who suddenly had a “moral” epiphany. Sure, that’s what cowards turn to because they know they will be embraced by the likes of pussies like you – but – there was nothing about their decision to become cowards that had anything to do with a sudden moral understanding – it was the fact they became scared shitless. EVERY member of the military is told in basic training that no matter their “job” in any branch of the service whether it be a cook, janitor, supply specialist, motor pool technician, or aviation technician – they may be required to pick up a gun and defend themselves and this country. No matter their job – they are soldiers first. There is NO excuse for those who at the time of enlistment KNEW they were going to be Infantry, Paratrooper, Gunner, Tank, weapons specialist, explosive technician, military police, etc – without a freakin doubt they would be trained to be killers. Those who turned coward have absolutely no excuse and no way to possibly defend the idea they were “tricked.” You’re a moron if you believe them!
Unlike Gulf War I, though, Gulf War II, freshly turned five years old, is an occupation. It is an obviouslyobvious to anyone that a crime had been committed there. A massive, inexcusable, inhuman, monstrous, treasonous crime. immoral war launched on the flimsiest of concocted excuses and conducted with the most sinister of aims. The history of Gulf War I, the suffering inflicted on Iraq by a decade of sanctions, the horror of depleted uranium weapons residues and unexploded landmines and other ordnance from the first attack should have made it
